About the Role:

Job Summary

Lead, manage and coordinate all accounting and financial reporting across the Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) Corporate structure. This includes both internal and external corporate reporting and may involve special reports as necessary. All financially related reporting for governmental entities, including, but not limited to IRS, Medicare, Medicaid, pension, state filings and involvement/approval in other reports requiring financial information or disclosure.

Responsible for coordinating and executing the annual external audit and implementing and operating all financial reporting and charge capture systems within NGHS. Key systems for which this position is responsible include; general ledger and financial reporting, accounts payable, project accounting, fixed assets, payroll, inventory, journal entry control and interfaces with other systems in support of the financial reporting integrity. Implementing sound systems of internal control to safeguard assets and assure integrity of financial reports is a collateral requirement of this position.

Completion of government Cost Reports and Government reimbursement, in coordination with Revenue Cycle are also key areas of responsibilities. Coordinates with external financial council on investing, bond financing, and tax issues.

Oversight and direction of the Accounting, Payroll, Accounts Payable, and other financial operations departments and personnel are also responsibilities of this position.



Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications: CPA

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Accounting

  • Minimum Experience: Five (5) years of recent accounting experience, preferably with increasing responsibility within larger healthcare systems. Demonstrated experience directing financial reporting and operating organizations. Progressive leadership and responsibilities within Healthcare required.

Job Specific and Unique Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent leadership and people skills.

  • Ability to administer accounting systems, knowledge of accounting standards, preparation of accounting documents.

  • Extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles(GAAP), auditing standards, payroll rules, IRS regulations, sales tax regulations for non-profits, and other hospital regulatory practices.

  • Able to effectively provide expertise in accounting matters to the Accounting Department and Senior leadership.

  • Ability to operate independently, understanding when to escalate issues of importance.

  • Highly effective communicator with the ability to clearly and concisely articulate ideas, concepts, and proposals.

  • Strong healthcare accounting business acumen.

  • Leads a culture of continuous improvement in the Accounting department.

  • Serves as a strong leader through coaching of leadership teams and developing leadership capabilities of Accounting management team.

  • Creates credibility as a strategic business partner.

  • Ability to understand the complexity of issues and provide practical solutions.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret accounting and payroll regulations.

  • Knowledge of bond financing and swap instruments.



Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Initiates recommendations of accounting policies and procedures which will meet the mission and values of the organization.

  • Establishes procedures to assure the accurate and timely recognition, documentation, classification and recording to financial transactions for the institution in accordance with GAAP as applied on a consistent basis.

  • Establishes internal controls to protect and safeguard assets.

  • Implements financial policies to ensure maximum utilization of institution's resources.

  • Responsible for the quality of the employees within the Accounting department to ensure maximum utilization of services.

  • Makes departmental personnel action decisions on an ongoing basis in the areas of employment, selection, promotion, demotion and termination.

  • Provides orientation, ongoing educational opportunities, counseling, referral assistance and discipline on an as needed basis to staff members.

  • Supervises day to day operations of the department and conducts individual meetings with all employees in order to review, plan and coordinate activities of the specific area and recommends ways of more effectively utilizing resources.

  • Responsible for accurate and timely preparation of internal and external financial statements and related information.

  • Prepares monthly variance report for VP Corporate Financial Reporting and CFO.

  • Coordinates annual audit of financial records by external auditors.

  • Coordinates with auditors schedules to be prepared by staff members and reviews staff members' work.

  • Coordinates delivery of audited financial statements for January board meetings.

  • Responsible for the cost-effectiveness of the department to achieve optimal financial viability for the institution.

  • Reports monthly variances of significance and reports to VP Corporate Financial Reporting.

  • Coordinates the timely preparation of reports required by regulatory agencies, including but not limited to Form 990, Medicare/Medicaid Cost Reports, DAC Reports, etc.
