Summary
The 4-H Program Assistant is responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of 4-H programs, meetings, and activities for Macon-Bibb County youth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serves as curriculum coordinator to select existing lessons, edit existing lessons, or develop new lessons.
- Coordinates and leads monthly virtual in-school 4-H meetings using selected 4-H curriculum lessons related to agriculture, natural resources, nutrition, financial literacy, etc.
- Assists with evening meetings several times a month.
- Works with 4-H Agent to plan and implement summer 4-H activities.
- Attends weekend and overnight activities with 4-H'ers throughout the year as permitted.
- Evaluates effectiveness of programs and adjusts upcoming lessons as needed.
- Provides regular written and/or verbal reports to the 4-H Agent and County Coordinator.
- Assists with 4-H fundraisers and community service activities throughout the year; may include some night and weekend work.
- Drives and chaperones 4-H'ers at both in-town and out-of-town events, as needed.
- Provides coaching for project work competitions, such as District Project Achievement and judging competitions
- Recruit students to become involved in 4-H educational programs.
- Recruit and assist interested volunteers in the successful completion of the volunteer screening procedure.
- Assist 4-h'ers in preparation for 4-H competitive events including project achievement, judging teams etc.
- Completes Georgia counts online reports accurately and on time.
- Use local mass media to publicize 4-H events and accomplishments.
- Use county website and internet media to increase 4-H program outreach.
- Performs general office support as needed.
Education, Training and Experience
The 4-H Program Assistant must possess at a minimum HS diploma or GED, graduation from a two-year college or vocational/technical school with course emphasis in human relations and/or youth development or other relevant subject matters and experience in program planning is desired. Any equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
Necessary Special requirements:
Must pass BASIC skills level test administered by Macon Bibb County Human Resources Department.
Must possess valid Georgia Vehicle Operator's License.
SUPERVISORY CONTROL AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
May supervise youth and adult volunteers, as needed.
TRAVEL:
The 4-H Program Assistant is required to travel frequently within Bibb County.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to relate effectively to both youth people and adults from a diverse cross-section of our population.
- Knowledge of interests and behavior of program participants.
- Knowledge of Cooperative Extension, and particularly 4-Hjprograms and policy initiatives.
- Skill in developing and implementing programs to youth.
- Skill in supervision youth.
- Skill in recordkeeping and reporting.
- Skill in virtual learning, social media, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Skill in clear, effective verbal and written communication.
- Ability to safely transport youth and adults in large SUV or van.
- Professional demeanor and ability to function both independently and within staff team.
(ADA) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and understand written materials. Ability to effectively communicate information to supervisors, employees, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing in a professional manner in order to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and/or provide service. In addition, this position requires extensive contact with supervisors, other employees, and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to interpret and understand a variety of forms, reports, manuals, regulations, and other means of instruction and guidance.
