For more information about DAWSON, please visit Salary Range: $18.00-$20.00 Per Hour JOB TITLE: Safety Intern EMPLOYER: Dawson BUSINESS SERVICE LINE: PAC ' Construction/Operations & Maintenance REPORTS TO: Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) EFFECTIVE DATE: 1/2/2025 ' The internship will run for the semesters duration with the option of extending if DAWSON and the student agree it would be beneficial for both parties concerned. SUMMARY: We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Safety Intern to join our team. As an intern, you will be a part of promoting and maintaining a safe environment on construction sites and Operations & Maintenance sites in Hawaii. You will have the opportunity to have a hands-on experience working alongside our experienced Safety personnel, Superintendents, Quality Control and Project Managers and contribute to the successful completion of projects while prioritizing the well-being of all personnel. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for identifying hazardous workplace conditions. Being involved in daily jobsite inspections to identify hazards, unsafe conditions and non-compliance with safety regulations. Reporting and record keeping of daily audits. Assisting in accident, incident or near miss investigations to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Takes samples and measurements of hazardous materials, and coordinates the removal of physical, biological and chemical hazards. Participates and develops the training of employees on safety policies, procedures, regulations. Ensures compliance with all applicable federal and state health and safety regulations and ensures necessary records are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines. Study EM 385-1-1 and OSHA 1910/1926 to get a good understanding of the laws required to do the job in an efficient manner Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures. Participate in emergency response procedures and drills to ensure readiness for potential emergencies or accidents on the construction site. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS: No prior experience or training. Currently pursuing a degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field Strong academic performance in relevant coursework, including Safety Management, Ergonomics or Industrial Hygiene Basic Computer skills. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills Ability to work effectively in a team environment and adapt to changing project requirements.
