Job description
The Alaka ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for an Ordnance Technician Cto support our government customer located in Kekaha, Kaua'i . Perform Operation & Maintenance (O&M) tasks associated with torpedoes, targets, missiles, ordnance, and ordnance handling systems and equipment, and missile launchers. Perform organizational-level maintenance of missile and target launchers to include the repair of launchers and associated equipment, and corrective and preventive maintenance. DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform post-operation flushing and maintenance of torpedoes, targets, training vehicles and other exercise weapons in accordance with current methods and procedures. Handle, transport, issue, ship, receive, and store ordnance/explosives and inert items per navy guidelines. Assist in the troubleshooting, repair, and install of ordnance related systems and equipment. Inventory and account for ammunition and explosives within and between magazines and other ordnance storage areas Performs preventive, corrective, and corrosive maintenance on ordnance containers and handling equipment. Assist in weight load testing of ordnance handling equipment / crane rigging gear. Launch Smokey Surface-Air-Missiles (SAM) and Stinger rounds as applicable. Operate Cat 1/2/3 cranes and perform as crane rigger-in-charge and rigger. Perform aircraft loading/unloading, facility housekeeping, and pre-operations visual grounding facility inspection. Ensure torpedo flushing facility is cleaned at all times when not in use. Inspect and perform Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) maintenance. Perform other duties, to include cross-utilization into other Ordnance Areas of Responsibility as assigned by Supervisor and/or Manager. WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: Environment: Ordnance and hazardous waste/materials handling facilities include launch pads, ordnance/explosive storage magazines/structures, missile assembly buildings, pier-side/aboard the torpedo weapons recovery (TWR) and multi-purpose craft (MPC) boats, Red Label Area to recover torpedoes/weapons/targets, weapons post-run flushing facility, and hazardous waste storage area. May also be in the vicinity of electrical wirings, high and low voltage circuits. Periodically works in close proximity to toxic fumes and by products, and high explosives. Office conditions are varied and includes physical tasks including lifting, pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds. Physical positions will include but not be limited to walking, sitting or standing for extended periods of time, crawling, kneeling, stooping or cramped working places. Environment will include customer contact, extended workdays, an office laboratory environment with field assignments, sometimes in inclement weather. Physical Activities: Transport ordnance items and other hazardous materials. Also includes operating tractor-trailers, launchers, cranes, tugs, man-lifts, k-loaders, stake-beds, and forklifts. Handles and transports heavy weapons/torpedoes/ordnance items and other hazardous materials. Must satisfactorily pass and annual physical for handling hazardous and toxic fuels and materials REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: High School or equivalent ( Two (2) years of college education preferred.) Must possess a valid State of Hawaii driver's license, a locally issued explosive driver's license and explosive ordnance handling qualification certifications. Must be able to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL). Must complete AMMO-18, Basics of Naval Explosives Hazard Control online course. Must have completed the 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training course. Must be able to obtain mobile crane operator's license. REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two (2) years of satisfactory progressive experience and training in the handling and assembly of ordnance items, such as missiles, drones, launchers, torpedoes, small arms ammunition and other related ordnance handling equipment. Must demonstrate knowledge of explosive theory and safety criteria through on-the-job performance and written examinations as required. Knowledge of utilizing procedures and standards for troubleshooting and/or installing ordnance related systems and equipment. Knowledge of current methods and procedures of post-operational maintenance of torpedoes, targets, training vehicles, and other exercise weapons. Experience and training in the handling and assembling of ordnance components, testing of initiators and operation of ordnance-handling equipment, including cranes, k-Loaders, forklifts, man-lifts, tractor-trailers and other related equipment. Must possess the following PC skills: Word and Outlook REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND SECURITY CLEARANCE: Must be a U.S. Citizen Secret security clearance is required. (Applicants selected either must currently possess a Secret clearance or will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain clearance prior to commencement of employment and maintain a security clearance for access to classified information or Closed/Restricted Areas throughout duration of employment.)
