Job description
Duties You will conduct air, water, and surface radiation surveys in shipyard areas You will check out deviations from normal or anticipated radiation levels You will implement radiological control (RADCON) procedures related to the storage, local transportation, and treatment of small volumes of nuclear waste You will monitor the storage and transportation of contaminated equipment You will identify conditions which affect the determination of actions necessary to contain and control radiation You will ensure adherence to RADCON requirements You will recommend changes to work plans and trades procedures to improve radiological controls, correct deficiencies, increase efficiency, minimize exposure and prevent incidents Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a US Citizen. Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326. This is a bargaining unit position. You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs. FOR THE GS-05: Successful completion of four years of education above high school leading to a Bachelor's degree with courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics, OR a combination of post high school education and specialized experience that equates to one year of experience. FOR THE GS-07: Successful completion of one year of graduate education that is directly related to the job being filled OR a combination of graduate education and specialized experience that equates to one year. FOR THE GS-09: Successful completion of two full years of graduate education that is directly related to the job being filled OR a combination of graduate education and specialized experience that equates to one year.
