GENERAL SUMMARY

This position of Outside Salesperson is responsible for conducting sales calls in the field via face-to-face interactions with potential and existing customers within an assigned territory. Serves as the face of the Garlock Chicago and is responsible for providing the best possible experience to our customers on a daily basis. Required to provide hands-on demonstration of products when necessary.


FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES

Travel within sales territory to meet prospects and customers

Conduct calls and face-to-face meetings with customers

Build and maintain relationships with new and repeat customers

Maintain records of all sales leads and/or customer accounts

Educate customers on how products or services can benefit them financially and professionally

Sell and deliver the company's products or services to customers within your given territory

Monitor the company's industry competitors, new products, and market conditions to understand a customer's specific needs

Maintain truck and other equipment in clean functional condition

Attend tradeshows and industry events as needed

Communicate with customers via phone and email

Enter orders in ERP system

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS/CERTIFICATIONS

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook and CRM.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must be able to obtain or possess a valid DOT medical card.

  • Must be able to unload trucks, visit customer sites, and perform product demonstrations.

Occasional operation of forklift for stocking, picking orders, and loading trucks / trailers. Frequent visits to customer facilities and jobsites. Customer facilities are typically industrial repair shops. Jobsites are typically various levels of remodeled or new construction of commercial building roofs. Often around heavy machinery and equipment; and on building rooftops, weather permitting, for customer demos and safety assessments.
