Job description

Duties Engage in protecting personnel, property, materials, and equipment against injury, damage, fire, theft, and possible acts of sabotage, espionage, and terrorism. Perform Security Guard duties during duty and non-duty hours. Welcome all Engineering Research and Development Center (ERDC) team members, visitors, high ranking officials upon arrival at the ERDC gates with courtesy and respect. Perform roving security duties in a Security Guard vehicle or on foot. Qualify with, wear and be able to use assigned weapon. Maintain annual requirements for assigned weapon and physical fitness requirements. Respond to incidents of theft, burglary, or other criminal activity; controls access to the facility after hours and on weekends; search and escort various types of supply and delivery vehicles; static guard duties. Perform installation access control for pedestrians and vehicles utilizing standard operating procedures (SOPs), written orders and regulatory requirements as a guide to access determination for a wide range of unique circumstances. Utilize knowledge and compliance with OSHA safety rules and regulations. Receive and provide on-the-job and/ or classroom training to ensure safety practices and equipment are fully utilized. Utilize required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Train new personnel on security policies, direction, and working conditions. Make recommendations regarding employees' performance, progress, and training needs. Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Appointment to this position is subject to a probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. This position has shift and rotating work schedules. This position requires a pre-employment and annual physical. This position requires a pre-employment drug test and is subject to random drug testing. This position carries a firearm, subject to the provisions of the Lautenberg Amendment. This position requires a SECRET security clearance. This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer. This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. The incumbent is required to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience required: One year of specialized experience which includes working with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DK-02 (GS-05).
