GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Clinical Coordinator overseas functions of clinical staff for Department operations in conjunction with the Clinical Department Manager. The Clinical Coordinator supervises clinical staff to facilitate the delivery of health care services, and to assist with staffing needs for the units.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provides unit shift coverage accordingly when staffing needs are not meeting minimal guidelines.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of staff education, orientation and specific job related training of new employees assigned to Acute and/ or Critical Care.
  • Collects and records data for quality assurance and performance improvement.
  • Customer service and patient advocate.
  • Plans, schedules, coordinate, makes assignments and establish goals and priorities for nursing and support staff on Acute and/ or Critical Care.
  • Provides supervision over the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care on Acute and/ or Critical Care.
  • Ensures that clinical services meet accrediting standards for Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP).
  • Serves as a Resource and Mentor in clinical situations.
  • Assess available resources, patient unit needs and assigns staffing accordingly.
  • Participates in conjunction with Manager of Acute and Critical Care in the development of the performance evaluations, and provide on-going feedback regarding levels of competency for clinical staff,
  • Resolves problems encountered by employee(s) or patient(s) during the course of the assigned shift.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the interview and hiring process.
  • Ensures safety and quality improvement standards are followed by all clinical staff.
  • Assists with interpretation of policies and procedures developed by RCH.
  • Assists in conjunction with Manager monitoring of departmental budget.
  • Maintains personnel productivity at acceptable levels for unit standards.
  • Performs full performance level professional nursing work, enhances professional growth and development through participation in staff development education, reviewing current literature, in-service meetings, workshops and research.
  • Assist in conjunction with Manager to develop monthly schedules, daily assignment forms, environmental surveillance rounds, and bi-weekly payroll and PTO requests for all clinical staff.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Graduate of an approved School of Nursing with current credentials as a Registered Nurse
  • 2-4 years' nursing experience required.
  • A BSN degree preferred.
  • Valid State of Illinois Nursing License required.
  • CPR certification required. ACLS certification required. PCCN, Telemetry or Medical Surgical certification preferred.
  • Integrity and Honesty is required to maintain trustworthiness.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrating understanding and empathy for patients and staff who are difficult and distressed.
  • Good team building skills and manages group processes.
  • Good problem solving skills.
  • Decision making skills are required to make well informed and objective decisions. Conflict management is required to minimize disagreements, complaints and grievances.
