Position Title: Firefighter/Paramedic
The Libertyville Fire Department is hiring for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. Candidates must complete the NTN FireTEAM exam and PSSA, and submit an application, release forms, and supporting certifications to be considered for the hiring process before September 3, 2024, at 4:00 pm.

$75,634 - $129,298

Job Requirements
Age: Must be at least 21 years old and no older than 34 years (except as otherwise provided by state law).
Citizenship Required: Must be a United States Citizen or Naturalized citizen.
High School Grad/GED: Required.
Valid Illinois Driver's License: Required.
Ability to Read/Speak English: Required.
Vision: Must pass a pre-employment physical.
College: Not required.
Academy Certification: Must have EMT certification and Basic Operation Firefighter Certification (Firefighter II).
Necessary Certifications:

Certified as a Basic Operations Firefighter or Firefighter II under the State of Illinois, Division of Personnel Standards and Education.
Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) EMT-B certification in good standing.
CPAT Certificate with Ladder Climb Certification from a licensed agency, no more than 12 months prior to taking the written exam.
Hiring Process
Application: Submit the completed application and required forms by September 3, 2024, at 4:00 pm.

Written Examination: Successfully complete the FireTEAM exam through the National Testing Network.

Physical Eligibility Register: Provide proof of successful completion of the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), including the required State of Illinois "ladder climb" portion from an approved agency, no more than 12 months before the written exam.

Oral Interview: Conducted at the Libertyville Fire Department by the Libertyville Fire & Police Commission. Applicants will be notified of the date and time of their interview.

Preliminary Eligibility Register: Candidates will be placed on the Preliminary Register based on their written test scores.

Initial Eligibility Register: Established from applicants on the Preliminary Register who have successfully passed the oral interview.

Final Eligibility Register: Posted after applying all preference points allowed by the Fire and Police Commission.

Preference Points:

Military: 5 points for applicants with at least 12 months of active duty in the U.S. Military, honorably discharged or in an active/inactive reserve status.
Education: 5 points for an associate degree in Fire Science or Emergency Medical Services or 3 points for a bachelors degree in any field from an accredited institution.
Paramedic (EMT-P): 5 points for being licensed as an EMT-P at the time of application.
Additional Steps:

Background Investigation: Conducted by the Fire & Police Commission or other agencies.
In-depth Psychological and Polygraph Examination: Administered by a registered psychologist.
Medical Examination: A post-offer medical examination, including a drug urine screen test, will be conducted by a licensed physician appointed by the Fire & Police Commission.
Note: Employment is conditional based on passing the post-offer medical examinations and drug screen. Regulations governing testing and eligibility are set forth in the Libertyville Fire & Police Rules and Regulations. The final eligibility list is valid for up to two years and one day from the date of posting, with candidates selected in rank order.
