Job description

Duties Provide emergency fire and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and respond with appropriate personnel and equipment. Provide advanced Emergency Medical Dispatch Life Support care through pre-arrival instructions to callers on a case by case basis. Troubleshoot computer and communication equipment to determine problem. Monitor status and availability of police, fire and medical units to assure an appropriate response is made. Perform several tasks at one time, to include typing while talking on both the radio and the telephone. Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Incumbent must Obtain and Maintain -Telecommunicator I/II, HAZMAT Awareness, CPR Certification, LEADS (Law Enforcement Agencies Data System) full access certification, NCIC (National Crime Information Center) certification. Incumbent is required to work (mission essential) regardless of weather conditions or base closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time. The work is performed in a highly stressful, restricted office environment. This position is designated as moderate risk involving Public Trust. Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation including a credit check to determine suitability for Federal employment and/or the position. Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as: Specialized Experience for GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes: Receive and evaluate emergency calls and/or situations; question callers to determine problem/nature of call in order to dispatch appropriate personnel and equipment; operate automation, emergency dispatching, and communications equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Specialized Experience for GS-07: One year of specialized experience which includes: Answer emergency 911 calls; dispatch appropriate equipment which requires knowledge of the various types of equipment/vehicles required for different emergency situations; perform intervention with distraught emergency callers during high risk situations until appropriate emergency response units arrive on the scene; provide instruction to callers on emergency medical procedures; monitor computerized dispatch, fire alarm systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). This position will be filled at the GS-06 or GS-07 level. If selected at the GS-06 level, the selectee may be promoted to the full performance level GS-07 level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at the GS-06 does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
