Job description

The Maintenance Mechanic position is responsible for carrying out the service work for equipment, buildings, and grounds by interfacing with manufacturing and logistics Team Leads and other key stakeholders, as well as ensuring the daily reduction of unscheduled downtime in production/logistics.

What You Will Do

  • Assists in the installation of new machinery as required
  • Ensures all safety, housekeeping and environmental rules and guidelines are followed per quality control, ISO, OSHA, LOTO and plant rules and procedures
  • Removes snow and ice from property and spreads salt
  • Coordinates opening and closing of facility, as necessary
  • Performs preventative maintenance as assigned
  • Performs advanced troubleshooting and repairs on non-standard equipment
  • Troubleshoots PLC and automation problems, belts, chains, drive gears to identify root cause, hydraulic, pneumatics, relays, transformers, motors, control circuits, switches, sensors, and HVAC
  • Troubleshoots and repairs electrical systems on equipment and building
  • Performs building maintenance including carpentry and masonry
  • Actively participates in regular Kaizen events using TPM tools and methodology, ensuring sustainability of improvements.
  • Recommends and implements measures to improve departmental safety, productivity, product quality, methods and working conditions so that downtime is minimized using teamwork and TPM/continuous improvement principles.
  • Proactively communicates maintenance needs, quality issues, or other situations that impact safety, quality, or productivity to Team Lead, Coach, or the appropriate functional/department leader
  • Assists in the training of coworkers
  • Works independently with minimal supervision
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Position Details

  • Plant location: Roscoe, IL
  • This position will work Monday - Friday 5:00am - 1:00pm (with occasional option to flex to a later start time)
  • Overtime is required, depending on business needs
  • Hourly Compensation: Commensurate with experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 4 years of experience in a manufacturing and/or industrial maintenance environment or military service training.

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods standing and walking
  • Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces
  • Must have visual acuity, near and far
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, technical manuals, and work instructions
  • Ability to design and troubleshoot electrical systems on equipment and building identifying the root cause
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems identifying the root cause
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatics, relays, transforms, motors, control circuits, switches, and sensors
  • Ability to create preventative maintenance, standard operating procedures, one-point lessons and clean inspect and lubricate documents
  • Ability to operate powered industrial truck (PIT) and maintain a license
  • Ability to work with computer systems for maintenance processes and work orders
  • Basics knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites software to create Preventative Maintenance, standard operating procedures, one-point lessons and Clean Inspect and Lubricate documents
  • Ability to cross train in other technical areas to enhance skills
  • Able to manage several plant-wide tasks concurrently
  • Ability to design new plumbing systems required
  • Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in English
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills
