Job description
Duties As a participant in the Pathways Internship Program, you will receive both formal and on-the-job training to develop the required knowledge and skill to successfully perform the duties of the position. Serve as trainee in contracting working closely with team leader and supervisor in a training capacity on assigned tasks. Observe and assist contract specialists to develop skills in contracting. Perform a variety of limited technical tasks designed to familiarize the incumbent with regulatory guidelines, terminology, procedures and techniques of the government. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a U.S. Citizen or National This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination. Must be at least 16 years of age. Official/Unofficial transcripts with the current enrollment course load. Must be enrolled or have been accepted for enrollment and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) at a qualifying educational institution on a full or half time basis. Educational enrollment MUST be on a half-time or full-time basis. Half-time basis is defined by the academic institution that the student is enrolled or accepted into. Must be willing and able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week during the duration of the internship. Applicants must be able to furnish course registration information at the start of each school term; and be able to provide verification of academic status (official transcript) at the end of each academic term. Qualifications THIS IS A YEAR-ROUND INTERNSHIP AND NOT SEASONAL Clarification: An appointment under a Pathways Internship is intended to continue through completion of education and work requirements. Pathways Interns qualify based on their educational achievements. For the GS-02 grade level: Completion of a High school diploma or equivalent. For the GS-03 grade level: Completion of 1 full academic year of post high school study. For the GS-04 grade level: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree. -Initial review of applicants will occur 7 days after the announcement opens. -Additional reviews of applicants will occur at the 30 and 60 day cutoff and the closing date of the announcement. PROGRAM COMPLETION AND CONVERSION ELIGIBILITY: This is an Excepted Service appointment. Upon successful completion of their academic program and the internship program, interns may be converted to a term or permanent position in the competitive service consistent with agency needs, academic achievement, and demonstrated potential. Conversion potntial for this opportunity is a GS -1102- 5/7/9 up to the full performance level of GS 9. However, future budgetary events, hiring restrictions, conversion caps, or other events may preclude the conversion or conversion to a position with the full potential performance level. Individuals converted to a position in the competitive service may be subjected to participation in an agency formal development program. To be eligible for conversion: Meet any agency-specific requirements specified in the Participant's Agreement. Demonstrate successful job performance that results in a rating of record of at least Fully successful and a recommendation for conversion by the first level supervisor. Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Program while enrolled as a half- or full-time degree- or certificate-seeking student; Complete a course of academic study/degree conferred, at a qualifying educational institution conferring a diploma, certificate or degree Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the intern will be converted; Receive a favorable recommendation by supervisor Minimum 2.5 GPA Education Qualifying education must be conferred or awarded by the closing date of this announcement.
