Night Custodial Assistant Supervisor

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Manage and provide leadership for assigned custodial staff operations, prioritizing project work, ensuring supply inventory is maintained, and making routine inspections to ensure effective and efficient facilities services.
  2. Plan, coordinate, oversee and perform interim and restorative floor care and other specialized and routine cleaning in all academic, service, and residential facilities per schedules outlined in custodial service standard and as required by Supervisor.
  3. Utilize published calendars in event scheduling system and elsewhere to determine optimal scheduling of project work to ensure minimal interruption to events and classes, and to verify that spaces are well-maintained prior to special events and the arrival of students and residential guests.
  4. Assist staff as needed to contribute to efficient facilities operations, including performing custodial duties.
  5. Ensure effective and efficient service to all customers.
  6. Continually monitor assigned work orders ensuring timely response for addressing the requested work, and clear communication to the customer regarding the work order status.
  7. Ensure that employee safety is a top priority and ensure that appropriate training is provided regarding cleaning processes, proper use of chemicals and equipment, lifting and hauling, and other work performed by assigned staff.
  8. Assist with campus-wide facilities processes such as waste-hauling, fire protection services, pest control, and other projects, as assigned.
  9. Must be responsive to emergency situations on campus outside of designated shifts or work hours and designate backup when unavailable.
  10. Coordinate with the Custodial Supervisor to ensure that all routine and special activities are properly covered during his/her absence.
  11. Cover any custodial supervisor's area in his/her absence, which on occasion may involve covering different shifts.

Qualifications
  1. High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. Two years custodial experience.
  3. Preferred ability to work successfully with people at all levels throughout an organization and with a wide range of internal and external customers.
  4. Proven ability to lead by example in both performance and behavior, and willingness to hold employees accountable for established expectations.
  5. Strong personal integrity, trustworthiness, and professional work ethic.
  6. Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
  7. Excellent problem-solving skills; the ability to anticipate and recognize problems and develop and implement creative, cost-effective solutions.
  8. Knowledge of current safety and regulatory procedures pertaining to the safety of facilities staff and the equipment and products that they use.
  9. Strong technology skills using a variety of systems, e.g., work order system, event scheduling system, HR and Finance systems as well as proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  10. Knowledge of current custodial technology trends and solutions.
  11. Must pass physical exam.
  12. Have and maintain a valid Illinois driver's license.

Physical Requirements

The employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motions, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, climb, crawl, crouch, stoop, kneel, bend, push, pull, lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
