The Vice President for International Affairs and the teams of staff in OVPIA's offices are the stewards of international activity across all campuses of Indiana University. Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Interprets and explains a wide range of university and governmental policies and procedures involving official records and admissions requirements to students, faculty, parents, and the general public.
  • Researches and responds to a broad range of inquiries from students, such as application status and completion, academic record, and broader admissions requirements, in addition to any other inquiries regarding International Admissions. Works with appropriate staff to ensure that client needs are met in the most efficient way possible.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of international education systems.
  • Monitors and processes a variety of e-forms and other requests from international students. Troubleshoots issues clients encounter and explains how to navigate the systems, use checklists, and submit e-forms.
  • Responds to requests for information; determines appropriateness of release of information under established university and federal policies; transmits information, if appropriate.
  • Processes and maintains official application records and admissions materials for international admissions at Indiana University; answers specific questions regarding records; ensures that records are accurate and complete; and investigates and resolves any questions or discrepancies.
  • Assists in scheduling meetings with admissions staff for international student applicants.
  • Serves as primary point of contact via phone and email inquiries on admissions process and status of applications for international applicants, academic departments, and other clients with requests for services and information related to international admissions and OIS procedures. Collaborates with units within International Admissions and ensures information is appropriately transmitted in an accurate and timely manner.

General Responsibilities
  • Oversees the processing and evaluation of all applications for admissions into that school and accompanying material, such as transcripts, to determine eligibility.
  • Maintains records and databases of applications; updates and purges as necessary; gathers and collates information from records and prepares reports.
  • Reviews applications for completeness, contacts applicants for any missing information or to resolve discrepancies, and obtains any necessary information from other sources.
  • Schedules and oversees any applicant interviews.
  • Makes recommendations regarding admissions and financial aid decisions; contacts applicant regarding the decision on the admission application.
  • Responds to phone and email inquiries on admissions process and status of applications; may assist in the design of recruiting events and materials.
  • Counsels potential students regarding courses and grades required for admission.
  • May supervise temporary staff in the admissions office; monitors and evaluates job performance.
  • Maintains files and databases on students admitted into the school; generates reports based on this information.

EDUCATION

Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 2 years of office or related experience
Preferred
  • Experience handling complex customer service situations in a university setting.
  • 2 years of experience in a complex customer services environment within a university setting.
  • Experience with international admissions policies and procedures

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Location

Bloomington, Indiana

This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule after initial training period (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.

Advertised Salary

$16.80 per hour
