The Associate Director, Operations and Assessment, sits on the AESE's Operations and Strategy team and leads unit development and assessment of strategic goals for student engagement and success.

Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Solicits and iterates research needs of stakeholders to ensure assessments meet desired outcomes.
  • Proactively considers survey audience, timeline, report audience, and survey goal limitation in designing and distributing assessments.
  • Ensures that data projects answers the questions that the organization needs answered.
  • Provides digestible, meaningful analysis that aids in decision support.
  • Validates the accuracy of data prior to dissemination, including other members of team.
  • Develops processes for accurately and securely collecting, storing, and disseminating data to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Consistently documents data retrieval, cleaning, analytical, and reporting processes.
  • Leads the investigation and implementation of new software and partnerships, as needed.
  • Ensures the complete cycles of assessment is performed for each project and that ongoing assessment projects are tracked and sustained on appropriate cycles.
  • Contributes to the development of annual action items for data and assessment that align with the AESE and university strategic plans.
  • Assesses projects and initiatives to prioritize work based on competing needs.
  • Communicates timelines.
  • Serves as direct project manager of designated supervisees.
  • Provides appropriate training, role expectations, and feedback.
  • Connects synchronously with supervisees on a consistent basis.
  • Prioritizes development opportunities.
General Responsibilities
  • Provides advanced analysis of existing data and data structures and satisfies ad-hoc reporting/analysis requests; serves as a first point of escalation for junior analysts.
  • Creates reporting specifications for complex reports/dashboards/analytical tools and leads testing/validation; ensures integrity, accessibility, and accuracy of reports/dashboards and data structures; addresses unique or more involved user requests for access to reporting data and tools.
  • Provides advanced consultation to faculty and/or staff and identifies business reporting needs and opportunities for analysis to drive business decisions; provides advanced guidance and interpretation of complex environments and data.
  • Makes recommendations and provides peer review and coaching; ensures proper documentation of data analysis efforts (data sources, reporting specifications, tools, issue/problem resolutions).
  • Ensures that all processes and analysis approaches are up to date and as efficient as possible; may participate in committees and communities of practice to share and improve data analysis practices across the university.
  • Performs advanced analysis to interpret and determine validity and quality of data.
  • Performs complex migration and conversion of data in support of analysis efforts.
  • Provides advanced research/analysis and stays up-to-date on emerging technologies and tools; makes recommendations for implementation to improve data analysis services and approaches.
  • May serve as project leader; often provides guidance to junior peers.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in computer science, information science, or related field)
WORK EXPERIENCE

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$65,000 - $70,000 per year
