Job Summary

Indiana University Bloomington Department of Biology is seeking a part-time person to assist in managing a research laboratory focused on birds and animal behavior.

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Responsible will include short-term (3 month) oversight of an animal facility where research animals are held that is off campus 3.5 miles and will require a vehicle.
  • Purchases supplies, provisioning of food and water, cleans animal rooms
  • Records animal health issues and working with veterinary staff.
  • Animal research is highly regulated and requires total compliance with animal care protocols and university policies.
  • Depending on the applicant's background, they may be asked to oversee field work and banding birds.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
Preferred
  • 2 years college experience
WORK EXPERIENE

Required
  • Experience with animal research.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required
  • Possesses a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University
SKILLS

Required
  • Data entry skills

Working Conditions / Demands

Another set of responsibilities will be on campus and will range from organizing biological samples for analysis, entering and proofing data, web-site management, and day-to-day details as requested by the current research associate/lab manager.

This work is seasonal, primarily during winter.
