Job description

Duties Assist in the manufacture of new equipment, making repairs and modifications to all types of ammunition production equipment used at the Activity. Perform welder duties using electric, acetylene and/or inert gas shielded welding processes. Make a wide range of welds from simple to precision welding, determining disassembly or repair necessary and materials to use. Work with light and heavy gauge, hardened metals, and overhead positions. Select type of rod and size of tip to accomplish welds, determining the heat necessary, setting up and adjusting equipment and maintaining proper speed, flame, motion, tip angle, and position to produce desired results. Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Position requires a valid driver's license. Position requires a forklift operator license. Must be able to pass yearly/annual physical and possess a medical certificate. Explosives certification is required. Position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019 and must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter Position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Welder Worker without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen-out elements' applicants should demonstrate experience with; 1) applying welds using flat and horizontal positions; 2) set-up and adjust equipment to accomplish welds; 3) use shop orders, work orders, blueprints and drawings to determine equipment and material needed to accomplish welds. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work involves standing, walking, stooping, climbing, and crawling. Work may be performed in awkward or cramped positions. Frequently handles, lifts, or carries parts or equipment that weighs up to 50 pounds. Occasionally may lift and carry items weighing more. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is done indoors and outdoors, sometimes in bad weather. Position is subject to noise, dirt, smoke, fumes, heat, sparks, and the glare of torches and heated materials. There is possibility of eye injury, electrical shock, burns, broken bones, and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement.
