Department Information
One of the first human genetics departments in the country, the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at IU School of Medicine has a rich history of training geneticists and genetic counselors and providing genetic consultation and counseling services. Currently ranked 5th in the nation among Genetics Departments for NIH Funding, received in 2023, the department contributes to the understanding of numerous genetic conditions through the integration of basic research in genetic and genomic mechanisms, translational research in disease models, and clinical trials in rare and common genetic diseases.
Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Supports GMP activities for the Indiana University Gene Therapy Testing Laboratory through participation in equipment maintenance activities (routine and preventative maintenance).
- Oversees equipment maintenance records.
- Conducts equipment validation protocols.
- Orders and receives reagents for GMP activities.
- Assists in filing and scanning of FDA compliant documents.
- Manages equipment performance and maintenance activities and documents compliance in an electronic document management system (Q-Pulse and REES).
- Implements installation and qualification protocols for new equipment in a manner.
- Assists management and quality assurance in filing and scanning of documents generated in the laboratory.
- Supports supervisors in managing unexpected assay occurrences, deviations, and out-of-specification results so that reporting of unexpected findings are evaluated in compliance with government regulations including but not limited to FDA, FAA and others.
- Performs daily, weekly, monthly, annual, biennial, preventative maintenance, and function verification of new equipment.
- Applies quality practices (GCP, GLP, GMP, GDP, ISBER) to positively impact environmental/research compliance and quality of samples used in research.
- Identifies errors and issues and reports findings to management. Reports to management for corrective and preventive action decisions.
- Provides on-call support to facility or equipment alarms on nights and weekends.

This position is posted at the Intermediate Career Level but may be filled at the Foundational Career Level depending on the candidate's qualifications. Working Conditions / Demands
The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$44,296.00 - $49,296.00 per year based on experience and internal equity within the department.
