Title: Lead Instrumentation Technician
Lilly is currently constructing an advanced manufacturing facility for production of API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) molecules located in Lebanon, IN. This facility is Lilly's largest investment in manufacturing capacity and is intended to provide APIs for current and future products, including new modalities. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the startup team for a greenfield manufacturing site, and the successful candidate will help to build the processes and facility to enable a successful startup into GMP manufacturing operations.
The Lead Instrumentation Tech is accountable for the sustainability of the instrumentation maintenance strategy. This is achieved by being the First-Line response to instrumentation related reliability issues; providing maintenance field support to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve instrumentation malfunctioning. They are expected to take an Acting Lead role in major projects and during normal operations in the absence of a supervisor, they are responsible for training new Instrumentation Technicians in all aspects of their jobs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support a safety-first, quality always maintenance team.
- Ability to respond quickly and proactively to changing priorities within a reasonable timeframe.
- Cross functional collaboration with Global Facility Delivery (GFD) to support project delivery.
- Support C&Q activities, including but not limited to, initial calibrations, shakedowns, initial/operational verification, and/or equipment qualification.
- Work with or supervise contractors performing calibration of instruments
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance and calibration on Process Instrumentation, Temperature, Pressure, Flow and Automatic Control Valves
- Troubleshoot and diagnose Process Instrumentation Equipment problems and make appropriate repairs to minimize downtime.
- Perform Modifications and new installations of Process instrumentation.
- Support Engineering with:
- Redesign, updating, and/or specifying instruments.
- Ensuring that the process instrumentation is in control, capable, and compliant to be used to manufacture API drug substances.
- Creation and development of RCFA, FMEA, RCM, PHR, etc.
- Contribute to incident/deviation investigations on instrumentation and implement countermeasure as appropriate to prevent reoccurrence.
- Complete, in a timely manner, assigned Trackwise /CAPA Items action items.
- Own change controls, when applicable, to increase the robustness and reliability of instrumentation.
- Oversee the Secondary Standards program, including their instrument calibration procedures and tolerances based on measurement uncertainty analysis.
- Act as SME in site calibration program.
- Make improvement recommendations for instrument calibration practices or instrument shop standards to ensure that CPP measurements are compliant with corporate standards.
Basic Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's degree in electrical / Automation / Instrumentation, or equivalent experience.
- Experience: Minimum of three years of manufacturing sites level instrument technician role
Shift Hours:
- This position is Monday-Friday. Future shift to be discussed.
- Must be available to provide off hour support and overtime will be required at times.
Additional Skills/Preferences:
- Supports a flexible 24/7 schedule.
- Willing to support off-hour emergencies when necessary.
- Mentoring skills required to educate craftspeople on new instrumentation technologies.
- Ability to read and understand P & ID drawings and schematics.
- Thorough understanding of calibration concepts and requirements including accuracy testing requirements.
- Thorough understanding and application of GMPs and FDA regulations.
- Thorough understanding and application of instrument, equipment, and loop calibrations of various parameters in manufacturing, utilities, and laboratory environments.
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills with clients and coworkers.
Additional Information:
- Tasks require entering manufacturing areas which require wearing appropriate PPE.
- May be required to provide support outside of normal working hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- The physical demands of this job are consistent with a Manufacturing environment and will require interaction with production equipment. Travel less than 5% of the time.
