Job Description: Assistant Director of Health Services

Location: Meadowview of Clive, Clive, Iowa

Overview: The Assistant Director of Health Services at Meadowview of Clive is responsible for supporting the Director of Health Services in overseeing and managing the health care operations within our Assisted Living, Independent Living, and Memory Care community. This role involves ensuring high-quality, compassionate care for residents while maintaining compliance with state regulations and organizational standards. The Assistant Director of Health Services will work closely with nursing staff, residents, families, and other healthcare professionals to promote the well-being and quality of life of all residents.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Clinical Oversight:
    • Assist in managing daily health services operations, including medication management, resident assessments, and care planning.
    • Monitor and evaluate the quality of care provided to residents, ensuring adherence to state regulations and community policies.
    • Support the development and implementation of individualized care plans in collaboration with the Director of Health Services and other healthcare professionals.
  2. Staff Management:
    • Supervise and mentor nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
    • Assist with scheduling and staffing to ensure adequate coverage and address any staffing issues that arise.
  3. Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure the community meets all Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA) requirements and standards.
    • Assist in preparing for and participating in state surveys, inspections, and audits.
  4. Resident and Family Relations:
    • Serve as a point of contact for residents and their families regarding health services, addressing concerns and providing updates as needed.
    • Facilitate communication between residents, families, and healthcare providers to ensure cohesive care delivery.
  5. Administrative Duties:
    • Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date health records, including documentation of care, assessments, and incident reports.
    • Collaborate with the Director of Health Services in managing budgets related to health services, including medication and medical supplies.
  6. Quality Improvement:
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and programs aimed at enhancing resident care and overall health services.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to improve the quality and efficiency of health services.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Iowa is required.
    • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a healthcare setting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role within assisted living, long-term care, or memory care settings.
    • Experience in working with a diverse senior population and understanding of various healthcare needs and conditions.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to effectively supervise and motivate a team.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with residents, families, and staff.
    • Knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to health services and long-term care.
    • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and other relevant healthcare software.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle complex situations with sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Certifications:
    • Certification in Gerontological Nursing or similar specialty preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and perform tasks that require standing, walking, and bending throughout the workday.
  • Capability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently.
