Overview:
The Manager of Rehabilitation Services works with both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation units/locations to provide the Best Outcome for Every Patient Every Time. The Manager, along with the inpatient therapy supervisor and Pediatric Therapy supervisor, supervises, directs, and evaluates licensed professionals and support staff providing rehab services. The Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the strategic plan for the service line, which is consistent with the organizations strategic and business plans. Provides leadership and positive promotion of the services continuum from acute care and post-acute care through outpatient programming with linkage to community resources. Responsible for the development, communication, and successful execution of established objectives (financial and clinical) within the service line.

Responsibilities:
Key Accountability
Strategic Planning/Development
Identifies and pursues growth opportunities for all units.
Identifies opportunities to coordinate rehab services with patient care areas and care transitions.
Identifies and implements changes to improve the efficiency of the units, including new technologies and workflows.
Identifies, implements and trains staff on new regulatory rulings.
Represents the department in UnityPoint-wide initiatives, meetings, etc.
Collaborates with leadership to create an operational plan consistent with the program's strategic plan.
Unit/department-based goals and objectives are in concert with the overall direction of the program and the overall hospital plan.
Links inpatient, post-acute and outpatient plans to promote coordination of care across the continuum and to promote operational efficiency.
Facilitates/collaborates in the development of program and business plans to address newly identified patient care needs.
Supports annual and multiyear capital budget.
Supports annual operational budget to support strategic plan.
Key Accountability
Leadership/Operations
Along with the Inpatient Therapy Supervisor Pediatric Therapy Supervisor, manages the recruitment and the training and orientation of new staff. Mentors and ensures competency of all clinical and non-clinical rehabilitation staff.
Facilitates the development, implementation and monitoring of all rehabilitation services initiatives.
Develops and implements cost containment measures.
Serves as a liaison between the therapists and other providers and clinicians.
Provides safe, effective, appropriate and cost-effective rehabilitative care promoting positive outcomes.
Serves as a resource to on practice issues and trends.
Integrates quality improvement activities intentionally and continuously.
Conducts regular department meetings for problem solving, decision making, and communication.
Initiates, communicates, and processes discipline actions and terminations.
Provides financial oversight for the department. Analyzes available financial data for significant variances. Provides report of budget analysis to Vice President Operations
Ensures all staff remain focused on patient satisfaction as evaluated by outpatient surveys.
Performs all other administrative, management, or technical duties as required or directed.
Collaborates with Vice President Operations to support program/practice changes to continually improve resource utilization.
Works with the Inpatient Therapy Supervisor, the Pediatric Therapy Supervisor and staff to meet productivity targets.
Interprets and addresses issues of patient care internally and externally (Administration, Medical Staff Committees, HMO's).
Facilitates quality improvement activities and processes.
Reflects organizational and departmental goals in the performance improvement plan. The plan includes shared process improvement and outcome measures.
Develops key indicators and collects monthly data to monitor, trend and analyze clinical performance.
Professional Practice
Provides leadership for strengthening the professional role of the disciplines.
Ensures that clinical practice models are promoted.
Articulates expectations of clinical performance.
Provides guidance supervisors regarding practice issues and resource utilization.
Provides leadership for evidence based practice changes.
Serves as a resource to other departments on practice issues and trends.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
Identify items that are minimally required to perform the essential functions of this position.
Preferred or Specialized
Not required to perform the essential functions of the position.
Education:
Graduate of an accredited therapies program or a related rehabilitation profession (Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech, Social Work)
May also be a graduate of a degree program in health administration/ business administration.
Master's degree in related field is preferred.
Experience:
Five to seven years of professional experience required.
Two to three years of previous management experience required.
License(s)/Certification(s):
License or certification as required by discipline.
Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
Must be knowledgeable about rehabilitation and management principles and practices, including performance management and performance improvement.
Knowledge of JCAHO and CARF standards is required.
Ability to direct and manage others.
