Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (and any other duties that may be assigned):

  • Practice safe working techniques and reinforce the EHS policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Provide daily guidance and direction in EHS programs at the employee/supervisor/manager level to ensure a common and effective approach.
  • Responsible for assisting in the identification of possible losses and evaluating the risk in such loss exposure. Develop and implement a plan to correct or prevent a loss and audit the plan to ensure its proper implementation and on-going effectiveness.
  • Work with IT/Maint/Operations personnel to ensure that contractor personnel working on the property are in compliance with company policies and safety requirements.
  • Work with internal personnel to create, implement, maintain/update as needed, any JSA's and other operating procedures to ensure safe work practices and safe equipment/process conditions. Assure that JSA's and safety policies and procedures are utilized and trained against on regular basis so they are understood and followed.
  • Provide advice, assistance, and auditing guidance to the operations management team to ensure that effective EHS practices and procedures are implemented and working.
  • Perform and contribute to company training plans by conducting or delegating to others:
    • Job specific EHS related training (safety, health, or environmental training)
    • Coordination of modular training programs for the operations group (ex. STOP training, or Blood Borne Pathogen training)
    • Annual OSHA required and company annually required safety training
    • ISO 14001/45001 required training
  • Ensure inspections by regulatory agencies are coordinated and controlled so deficiencies (and any resulting penalties) are minimized and corrected.
  • Maintain all documentation associated with permits and regulatory requirements
  • Assist with maintaining the Emergency Preparedness Plans & Procedures, including required BCP's (Business Continuity Plans)
  • Responsible for coordinating with the Operations team on regulatory programs and its applications, and help support the compliance process.
  • Accountable for researching and writing permit applications and work with EHS committee and key operations personnel to ensure Company is compliant in completing permit reporting requirements.
  • Responsible for coordinating ISO 14001 and 45001 external registration/surveillance audits with Quality Manager (so they are completed in coordination with ISO 9001 audits).
  • Responsible for scheduling and conducting ISO14001 and 45001 internal audits and reporting on results and coordinating corrective actions with company personnel.
  • Review accidents and incidents which occur and assist in conducting investigations, then work with the operations management team to assure the development and implementation of corrective actions by conducting follow-up audits/inspections.
  • Manage EHS based audit process and risk assessments and regularly conduct training needs analysis with EHS Committee auditors.
  • Work with Human Resources department on documentation and management of all workman's compensation claims and cases - Communicate with HR, Operations, and Accounting on direction/outcome of cases accordingly.
  • Lead the Emergency Response (1st Responders) Teams to execute and comply with all company emergency response policies and procedures (including the schedule/execution of drills to test preparedness).
  • Assist operations with Crane and Forklift operator training.
  • LOTO - Maintain active/accurate machine lists (coordinating with operations) so when new equipment is purchased and installed machine-specific LOTO procedures are created. Assure that annual LOTO audits and inspections are completed and ensure those on the LOTO authorized personnel list know how to properly LOTO all equipment they are responsible for operating/maintaining.
  • Upkeep of Fire/Evacuation maps as necessary and to reflect changes in layouts/facilities.
  • Manage communication of emergency information (labels, notifications, call lists, etc.) and assure this info is communicated/distributed as necessary to maintain an adequate level of emergency responsiveness.
  • Set up Annual Hearing Conservation Tests and keep the results for audits and address any issues identified.
  • Responsible for administrating respirator programs for welders and painters.
  • Travel to all operations/facilities to perform listed or additional duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • Safety and health professional training/certifications
  • Associate degree (A.S.) in Environmental, Safety & Health or business (or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.)
  • Workman's Compensation Claim and Case Management training.
  • OSHA Compliance certification
  • ISO 14001 and 45001 internal auditor training
