Scott County Hospital Position Summary


Position Title: Comptroller

Department: Finance

Reports to: CFO

Date: 4/11/2023


Mission: To provide efficient customer service to our customers and associates through accurate accounting. Support and promote the mission of Scott County Hospital.



Purpose of position:


To ensure accuracy and timeliness of accounting procedures and financial reporting; supervise AP procedures; give input as part of the Charge Master Committee and Corporate Compliance.


Essentials Functions:

  • Coordinate and control financial activities within accounting department
  • Evaluate existing procedures for recording financial transactions to determine methods of reducing time and cost of accounting program
  • Approve entries posted to accounts for accuracy and compliance with established accounting procedures and policies
  • Prepare journal entries needed for monthly financial statements
  • Review financial reports for accuracy before release
  • Coordinate and prepare for year-end audits
  • Provide adequate cash forecasting so that operating and capital expenditures can be met.
  • Control and record bank deposits and bank accounts
  • Give technical assistance to Department heads during budget preparation
  • Oversees accounts payable function, insuring that all payments are timely, in accordance with established procedures. Maintain careful control over the timing of disbursements to insure that bills are paid only as they are due and not before, so that cash can be conserved for temporary investment.
  • Report regularly to CFO.

Additional Responsibilities


  • Organize the annual contract negotiations with insurance companies. Other duties as assigned by CFO.

Education

  • Associate degree in accounting or comparable work experience required.


Personal Characteristics:


  • Independent worker able to fulfill duties without supervision.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Needs to be detail oriented with ability to see over all accounting consequences.


Expectation of Service


This is a non-exempt 40 hour per week position. Regular and punctual attendance is required.


Physical Requirements


This position requires continual sitting and typing at a computer terminal, some walking, bending, stooping, and lifting of up to 25 pounds.
