JOB SUMMARY

The Therapist provides clinical assessment, treatment planning, individual/family therapy, and crisis counseling for a caseload of clients. Therapists will also provide group therapy experiences for identified clients as needed. Therapists will collaborate with a team of providers in exploring therapeutic interventions, responding to the needs of clients, and working toward achieving clients' goals. They provide clinical supervision within the agency by assisting all team members in providing a therapeutic environment for clients.

Essential Functions

Planning and Counseling Activities:
Provide services to a caseload of inpatient and/or outpatient clients.
Completes assessments for clients through the use of various psychometric devices and clinical interview procedures.
Provides individual, family, and group therapy services to clients.
Provides initial and ongoing clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and progress reporting for residents.
Provides consultation and coaching for clients as related to crisis management.
Work cooperatively with outside agencies, in order to maximize and individualize the services provided to each client. (i.e. referring agencies, hospitals, schools, mental health centers)
Provide consultation to outside contacts on therapeutic perspectives to better meet the needs of the client.
Participates in treatment team meetings and recommends appropriate therapeutic interventions.
Participates in the evaluation of treatment programs; develops and/or modifies procedures and techniques to improve treatment services.
Provide on-call consultation and support one weekend per quarter to support the weekend team.
Develops and conducts training on clinical topics for staff In-service at the request of leadership.

Supervisory and Training Activities:
Meets weekly with all clinical staff, as a group, to discuss clinical perspective on the work.
Meets individually with the Clinical Director on a regular basis and for additional consultation as needed.
Monitors own CEU hours accumulated and license renewals.
Meets with youth counselors to provide situational clinical supervision, as needed.

Administrative Activities:
Assures documentation accurately reflects services provided.
Monitors timeliness of documentations, including treatment plans and quarterly reviews of cases.
Reports directly to Clinical Director.
Cooperates with other departments, in order to provide coordinated services to the residents and referring agencies.
Supports leadership and staff in special projects.
Remains current on any regulations and/or guidelines applicable to their activities.

Other Job Functions:
Completes administrative projects for leadership and staff, as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Clinical Counseling, Clinical Psychologist or related field and experience in child/adolescent counseling.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of mental illness, behavioral and maladaptive problems and the associated symptoms, treatment, and social implications.
Knowledge and the ability to implement individual, family, and group therapy techniques.
Knowledge of normal and abnormal psychology.
Knowledge of current trends and practices in treatment of children and adolescents.
Ability to establish and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with clients.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to write clear, concise, accurate reports.

Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to see, hear, and/or talk.
See well enough to read reports, monitor youth, drive a vehicle, and observe discreet behaviors.
Hear well enough to converse on the telephone and hear comments mumbled under breath.
Speak well enough to teach skills, give feedback, discuss strategies and converse on telephone.
Frequently required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time.
Body movement or mobility to track behaviors of youth moving around the building.
Ability to walk up the stairs (where necessary) throughout the 8 hour shift, and get into and out of a vehicle.
Stamina to work on your feet, as needed, for 8 hour shifts.
Remain awake and alert throughout the work shift.
Frequently required to lift and move up to 10 lbs.
Occasionally required to lift and move up to 25 lbs and 50 lbs with assistance.
Such as: suitcases, groceries
Ability to push/pull up to 200 lbs during a physical restraint.
Required to physically assist in the verbal and physical restraint of clients up to 200 lbs who need external controls.
Bend, stoop, and/or reach as needed.
Satisfactory level of dexterity to complete various tasks including, but not limited to, operating a computer keyboard, cooking or driving. Ability to read computer screen and mail.

Environmental Conditions:
Worker is subject to outside environmental conditions occasionally; inside conditions frequently, usually with protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
The work includes constant interruptions, inappropriate behaviors, and the potential for verbal and physical threats from youth.

Travel Requirements:
Type - conferences, seminars, meetings, trainings or off-site activities with residents.
Qualifications - valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
