JOB SUMMARY

Serves as primary liaison between patients, staff, and physician.
Measures and records pertinent medical information.
Performs assigned nursing procedures for the comfort and will being of patients.
Assists providers in examinations and minor office procedures.
Utilizes knowledge of patient's age and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care.
Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes
Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education

Holds an active Licensed Practical Nurse license, and is eligible to practice in the state of Kentucky.
Current CPR certification required

Minimum Work Experience

Able to provide nursing care including, but not limited to administering medications and treatments, interpreting diagnostic tests, collaborating with other health care providers, and providing education to patients and/or significant others. Experience with electronic medical records preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential Job Functions

Gathers and records pertinent patient information such as medical history, medication information, and essential diagnostic reports.
Performs daily age appropriate routine assessments of patients and priortizes patient needs under the direct supervision of a licensed provider.
Prepares patients for examinations or procedures including positioning, draping, shaving, and disinfecting treatment sites.
Assists with examinations, invasive procedures, and minor medical procedures that are performed by a licensed provider.
Demonstrates the ability to administer medications orally, subcutaneously, intramuscularly, intradermally, intranasally, or optically as ordered by a license provider.
Identifies and reports critical results to licensed provider.
Competent in performing point-of-care testing as ordered by a licensed provider while adhering to OSHA regulations with an emphasis on patient safety and quality control.
Maintains infection control practices by cleaning patient care areas before, between, and after usage.
Collaborates with other healthcare providers as needed to ensure continuity of care.
Demonstrates the ability to provide clear patient instructions on specific treatment regimens as recommended by a licensed provider.

Age Specific Job Functions

Explains appropriate paperwork for treatment of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
Follows policies regarding consent for treatment and release of medical information regarding a minor or a person who is unable to make medical decisions for themselves.
Demonstrates appropriate awareness for suspected abuse and/or neglect to report them according to protocol.
Identifies and plans for appropriate safety precautions to be taken to prevent injury to the pediatric, adolescent, adult, amd geriatric patients.
Provides education to patient/family based on assessment of identified need.

Age Specifics (Pediatrics)

Demonstrates knowledge of pediatric growth and development norms and appropriately address abnormal findings.
Recognizes and assesses pediatric growth and development patterns and plans accordingly.
Demonstrates competency and knowledge of age appropriate equipment.
Demonstrates appropriate airway management and suction technique in the infant and toddler patient.
Demonstrates appropriate awareness for suspected abuse/neglect to pediatric patients and takes measures to report them according to protocol.
Identified and plans for appropriate safety precautions to be taken to prevent injury to the pediatric patient.
Demonstrates competency and knowledge in the proper technique for the administration of medication of infants and toddlers.
Takes vital signs at appropriate sites and is able to interpret per norms.
Is familiar with location and use of pediatric emergency equipment and drugs.
Provides education to patient/family based on assessment of identified learning needs.

Age Specifics (Adolescents)

Demonstrates knowledge of adolescent growth and development norms and appropriately addresses abnormal findings.
Recognizes and assesses adolescent growth and development patterns and plans accordingly.
Demonstrates appropriate awareness for suspected abuse/neglect to adolescent patients and takes measures to report them according to protocol.
Identifies and plans for appropriate safety precautions to be taken to prevent injury to the adolescent patient.
Demonstrates competency and knowledge in the proper technique for the administration of medication to adolescents. Modifies medication dosages as calculated by age and weight.
Takes vital signs at appropriate sites and is able to interpret per norms.
Is familiar with location and use of emergency equipment and drugs for the adolescent patient.
Provides education patient/family based on assessment of identified learning needs.

Age Specifics (Adults)

Demonstrates knowledge of adult growth and development norms and appropriately addresses abnormal findings.
Recognizes and assesses adult growth and development patterns and plans accordingly
Demonstrates appropriate awareness for suspected abuse/neglect to adult patients and takes measures to report them according to protocol.
Identifies and plans for appropriate safety precautions to be taken to prevent injury to the adult patient.
Demonstrates competency and knowledge in the proper technique for the administration of medication to adults.
Is familiar with location and use of emergency equipment and drugs for the adult patient.
Provides education to patient/family based on assessment of identified learning needs.

Age Specifics (Geriatrics)

Evaluates for age appropriate behavior, motor skills and physiology norms.
Demonstrates appropriate awareness for suspected abuse/neglect to geriatric patients and takes measures to report them according to protocol.
Identifies and assesses need for additional safety measures.
Demonstrates knowledge of the normal aging process.
Demonstrates competency and knowledge of special needs and measures for medication administration and knowledge in the identification of sensorium changes.
Is familiar with location and use of emergency equipment and drugs for the geriatric patient.
Provides education to the patient/family based on assessment of identified learning needs.
