REPORTS TO: Director of Grant Finance and Accounting

JOB SUMMARY AND QUALIFICATIONS:

The Grant Accountant is a key member of the Finance team that works directly with program directors and funding source contacts for assigned grants and special projects. The primary focus of this position is the accuracy and timeliness of grant billings, project tracking, and all related reporting as required by various funding sources.

WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE FOR THIS ROLE:

• A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field with one or more years of non-profit accounting or grants experience or equivalent experience with grant accounting.

• Proficient at Microsoft Office products.

• The ability to effectively handle confidential information and materials.

• Proven oral and written communication skills.

• Strong financial and analytical abilities with the ability to collect, analyze, and present accurate results.

• The ability to work independently and execute responsibilities in a high volume, deadline oriented environment; the willingness and ability to organize, implement, and complete multiple tasks with limited direction; can maintain accurate documentation and perform quality work with accuracy and attention to detail.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Track expenditures on all grants assigned by utilizing reports and data extracts from accounting systems.

• Track expenditures on assigned special projects by utilizing reports and data extracts from accounting systems.

• Identify opportunities to modify grant budgets to ensure all program expenditures are covered.

• Prepare all assigned required program grant billings and financial reporting within established time frames.

• Prepare and enter into the general ledger approved journal entries. Maintain adequate controls and documentation to help ensure accuracy of entries.

• Accurately allocate expenses to programs in accordance with funding source regulations and approved rates.

• Support program staff during periodic funder program reviews and audits.

• Continuously search for improvements to accelerate/improve the billing process.

• Assist as needed with the annual audit; prepare requested audit schedules.

• Assist with the identification of significant weaknesses in the accounting internal controls and the development of compensating/alternate controls to strengthen the identified weaknesses.

• Track staff allocations to grants ensuring grant billing of staff time is maximized and transparent to operations.

• Assist in preparation of monthly accruals/revenue entries related to grants and maintenance of Grant general ledger departments/grant ID's.

• Other projects as assigned.

• Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) duties as assigned by supervision & PQI committee.
