Position Type: STUDENT SUPPORT Date Posted: 7/8/2024 Location: LOCATION TO BE DETERMINED Date Available: 07/18/2024 Closing Date: 11/30/2024 Additional Information: Show/Hide Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Reports To: Immediate Supervisor Prepared By: The Division of Human Resources Board Approved Date: Salary Range: CL H02 $25,627 to $41,627 Summary: The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) performs a critical role in the school setting by working under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) to address the major health problems and daily health needs of children in the school setting. This role includes providing preventive and screening services, health education and assistance with decision-making about health, and to monitor immunization compliance against preventable diseases. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Patient Care and Coordination of Care: Assists assigned school(s) in understanding and managing health issues for students, including but not limited to the implementation of physician (or other prescribing provider) orders, following applicable laws and procedures. Consult with school staff, trained school support staff, parents, and/or students regarding identified student health issues/concerns. Serves as a school health consultant to school staff, trained unlicensed personnel, and/or parents/guardians. Acts as a liaison between supervising RN, assigned school(s), health department(s), health care provider(s), and/or other health agencies to coordinate care for students. Works collaboratively with supervising RN to train school staff, as appropriate, to perform required procedures; provides ongoing staff development training on health-related subjects. Provides nursing care for ill or injured students, and appropriately refers students for health issues requiring a higher level of care. Ensures follow-up, as appropriate. Provides health counseling to students, parents/guardians, and/or staff, as appropriate. Assists schools with immunization monitoring/compliance and health screenings for students; including mass vision screening, mass hearing screening, and any other mandated screenings, as required. Works in collaboration with the school principal(s) and supervising RN to meet the daily health care needs of all students; providing assessments, drafting and revising plans of care, when warranted. Collaboration and Partnership: Communicate with parent(s)/guardian(s), school staff and faculty as necessary concerning the student's health status; while maintaining confidentiality. Attend staff meetings and accept professional development opportunities. Quality: Meet assignment, attendance and punctuality standards. Documentation of student visits, education, and training according to policy. Responsible for maintaining Continuing Education according to LSBN/LSBPNE guidelines. Other Duties: Other duties as assigned that are related to the functions of the position. Essential Functions/Qualifications/Requirements: Education and Experience: Holds a current license as a licensed practical nurse in the state of Louisiana. Prefer two years of experience as a licensed practical nurse. Holds a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Willing to become a BLS instructor within 90 days of hire.
