Reports To: CSU Electrical Manager / Lead Engineer
Job Summary
The CSU (Commissioning, Startup) Electrical Switchgear Relay Testing Specialist will play a critical role in the commissioning and startup of a newly constructed LNG facility. The specialist will be responsible for testing, inspecting, and troubleshooting electrical switchgear and protective relays to ensure reliable performance and adherence to industry standards. This role is essential in verifying the safe operation of electrical systems, ensuring the facility's smooth transition from construction to operational status.
Key Responsibilities
- Testing and Commissioning: Perform testing, calibration, and commissioning of high-voltage and low-voltage switchgear, including protective relays, circuit breakers, and transformers.
- Relay Protection Systems: Conduct thorough relay protection scheme testing and configuration for safe operation of switchgear, ensuring protection against faults and power disturbances.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot issues with electrical components, including protective relays, switchgear systems, and related control systems.
- Equipment Inspection: Inspect and verify the installation of electrical equipment and cabling to ensure compliance with industry standards (IEEE, IEC, NFPA) and project specifications.
- Data Analysis: Analyze test results and data logs to ensure optimal performance and reliability of electrical systems, providing recommendations for corrective actions when necessary.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed reports of testing and commissioning activities, including test procedures, results, and as-built documentation for all electrical systems.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project engineers, contractors, and operations teams to coordinate commissioning activities and resolve technical issues.
- Compliance: Ensure that all activities adhere to LNG industry regulations, site safety protocols, and electrical codes.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience:
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in electrical commissioning and startup, specifically in LNG, power plants, or large industrial facilities.
- Extensive experience with switchgear testing, protective relay testing, and troubleshooting electrical systems.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in the use of relay testing equipment such as Omicron, Doble, or similar.
- Deep knowledge of electrical protection and control systems, relay protection schemes, and fault analysis.
- Familiarity with high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems in industrial environments.
- Certifications: Relevant industry certifications (e.g., NETA, IEEE, or NICET) preferred.
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a high-stakes environment.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in an industrial environment, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), working at heights, and in confined spaces as needed.
- Work will primarily be conducted in the newly constructed LNG facility, including time spent in switchgear rooms, control centers, and field locations.
- Must be available for extended shifts and on-call duty during the critical commissioning and startup phases.
- This is a contract-based position tied to the facility's commissioning and startup phase, with potential for longer-term opportunities based on performance and project needs.
- A per diem of $151 per day is being offered for 7 days a week.
- Monday - Saturday work schedule
