Summary You will serve as an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic in the Production Division, Public Works Department Great Lakes, of NAV FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND SE. Duties You will determine the nature and scope of repairs required to restore electronically controlled industrial equipment to service. You will inspect systems, interpret gauge and meter readings, or recalibrate controls to maintain conditions or operation. You will perform operational test of electronically controlled industrial systems and components to determine functionality. You will analyze diagnostic test readings and operating conditions of electronically controlled industrial equipment to isolate system malfunctions. You will use signal generators and oscilloscopes to visually trace the progression of a signal. You will use test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, voltmeters, ohmmeters) to make repairs or adjustments to electronically controlled industrial equipment. You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases. You may be required to obtain Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) certification from a State Environmental Agency if required by the state. This is an emergency response position. In the event of an emergency, the incumbent may be required to report to work during a non-duty/duty hour and during emergency situations, may be assigned duties other than those in the position description. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. Incumbent may be required to serve on-call duty on a rotational basis. When on-call, the incumbent is required to carry a duty cell phone and duty pager and must remain available to respond on site to after-hour emergencies within two hours. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Monitoring and analyzing indications and readings for individual systems or subsystems to determine integrated system operational condition and isolate faults. 2) Setting up and operating electronic test equipment. 3) Solving difficult testing problems that arise by applying a broad range of electronic principles, analyzing malfunctions, and devising repair procedures. 4) Performing operational checks, calibration, and final testing of electronic instruments and equipment. Policy information may be found at: Physical Effort: Moderate lifting up to 40 pounds is required. If a heavier lift is required, it must not be attempted without assistance. Must be able to work at a rapid pace for a short period of time. Occasionally required to perform work by stooping, bending, and reaching while in cramped and uncomfortable positions and by walking, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolds to perform work at various heights. Normal vision is required. Working Conditions: Some work is performed outside and may require exposure to prevailing weather conditions. Working conditions in this position vary with a portion performed in relatively pleasant surroundings and a portion performed on rooftops, in equipment rooms, under buildings and in confined spaces. Subject to perform work in areas with high noise levels where ear protection is required. Working in very hot and cold environments, poorly ventilated and lighted areas is occasionally required and, in some instances, work in these conditions is for the duration of the shift. The incumbent may be exposed to fumes, dust, dirt, grease, and oil, and is subject to the possibility of scrapes, cuts, bruises, contusions, burns, electric shock, and eye hazards. PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL, if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation. ICTAP Applicants: To be considered well-qualified and exercise selection priority as an ICTAP candidate, displaced Federal employees must satisfy all qualification requirements for the position and receive a rating in the highly qualified category (score 85) or higher.
