Job description

Duties You will serve as a Safety Division OSH "troubleshooter" responsible for the investigation of newly recognized OSH problem areas lacking established OSH procedures. You will provide technical input to various Shipyard OSH training programs and program elements. You will conduct and/or chair OSH related meetings with Shipyard personnel. You will conduct Fire, Safety, and Health inspections of all shipyard work areas. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience developing and issuing new and unique OSH instructions, procedures as needed to address and resolve emergent issues. Experience preparing reports that contain findings, risk assessments, recommended corrective actions and abatement dates. Experience conducting personnel injury and/or property damage accident investigations. Experience preparing reports which include findings, evaluations, conclusions, and applicable corrective actions. Experience reviewing new and modified work procedures for industrial health hazards. Education In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: GS-07: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: Successful completion of a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology; Or Successful completion of one full year of graduate education in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology; NOTE: One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements. Are you using your education to qualify?
