Polysomnographic Technologist (part-time)

South Portland, Maine

The Maine Sleep Center at Chest Medicine Associates, an AASM-accredited facility, is seeking a Polysomnographic Technologist for part-time night shift(s) to be based in the South Portland office.

Requirements of the Polysomnographic Technologist

Minimum 1 year of experience and PSG scoring proficiency.

For Polysomnographic Technologists, certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists or RRT-SDS credential is required.

RRTs must have State of Maine licensure.

Current BLS for Healthcare Provider certification is required.

Excellent clinical, communication, customer service, and organizational skills.

Pediatric experience is desirable.

Opportunities to work one or two, 12-hour overnight shifts per week are available.

Responsibilities of the Polysomnographic Technologist:

Review the patient's history and verify the medical order.

When patient arrives, verify identification, collect documents, and obtain consent for the study.

Collect, analyze, and integrate patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history).

Follow sleep center protocols or physician order.

Explain the procedure and orient the patient for in-center testing.

Provide age-appropriate patient education.

Select appropriate equipment and calibrate for testing to determine proper functioning and adjust if necessary. Apply electrodes and sensors according to protocol or generally accepted standards.

Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization.

Perform diagnostic polysomnography.

Perform CPAP/Bi-level/ASV/VAPS titration studies.

Perform MSLT/MWT.

Score studies in accordance with AASM standards.
