POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Internal Audit is responsible for leading and managing the Internal Audit function of the bank, ensuring that all audit activities are executed efficiently and in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. This role includes developing the annual audit plan, assessing risk, overseeing audit engagements, and managing relationships with external auditors. The Director will play a critical role in evaluating and enhancing the bank's internal controls, risk management, and governance processes. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Lead and manage the Internal Audit department, ensuring the execution of a risk-based audit plan. • Develop with the CRO and implement the annual audit risk assessment to identify key risk areas and prioritize audit activities. • Ensure all audit activities are in compliance with FDIC and FRB regulations, internal policies, and industry standards. • Develop a comprehensive annual audit plan that aligns with the bank's strategic goals and regulatory requirements. • Monitor the progress of the audit plan, making adjustments as necessary to address emerging risks or changes in the business environment. • Oversee the planning, execution, and reporting of all internal audit engagements, ensuring that audits are conducted in a thorough and timely manner. • Provide guidance and support to the audit team in evaluating operational controls, identifying control weaknesses, and developing actionable recommendations. • Ensure effective follow-up on audit findings and the timely remediation of identified issues. • Serve as the primary liaison with the bank's external CPA firm, managing outsourced audit functions and ensuring the coordination of internal and external audit efforts. • Review and assess the quality of external audit work and ensure that it complements the bank's internal audit activities. • Collaborate with regulatory bodies and examiners during examinations and ensure the bank's preparedness for such reviews. • Lead efforts to address and remediate any findings from regulatory examinations, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations. • Provide insights and recommendations to management on improving operational efficiency and control effectiveness. • Prepare and present comprehensive audit reports to the CRO, Audit Committee, senior management, and the Board of Directors. • Communicate audit results, trends, and emerging risks to stakeholders, providing clear and actionable recommendations. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; Master's degree preferred. • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or equivalent certification required. • Minimum of 10 years of experience in internal auditing, with at least 5 years in a management or leadership role within a financial institution, preferably a FDIC-regulated bank. • In-depth knowledge of internal audit practices, risk management, internal controls, and regulatory requirements for financial institutions. • Experience in managing outsourced audit functions and coordinating with external audit firms. • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively interact with senior management and the Board of Directors. • High ethical standards and integrity.
