Title:
Lead Engineering Technician KBR's Government Solutions - US Defense Systems Engineering Business Unit is seeking a Lead Engineering Technician with 8+ years of experience to join our team and work in our Development and Integration Laboratory in Lexington Park, MD. Specifically, we are looking for qualified candidates to support our team in designing, developing, modifying, and improving products and processes. This will include new designs and reverse engineering obsolete designs to prototype, fabricate, assemble, test, document, and deliver to a wide variety of customers. The ideal candidate will have electronics and mechanical engineering technician skills and a high level of experience working on military avionics, communications or electronics equipment, and associated quality management systems. RESPONSIBILITIES: The candidate will work with limited supervision and review of work, with occasional tasking to lead integration support at customer laboratories and spaces. They must provide considerable creativity and sound judgment to supervisors to plan, estimate, and accomplish work, resolve design and operational problems, and review the completed work of others for technical adequacy and meeting requirements. This will require the capability to read, redline, edit, and develop wiring diagrams, circuit schematics, mechanical drawings, parts lists, and engineering instructions for assembling and testing equipment. The candidate will assist projects in various design and analysis stages, material research and control, fabrication and prototyping, assembly and testing, and documentation and training to deliver models, prototypes, and end-items of devices, equipment, or systems to our customers. This will require the capability to plan process steps to fabricate parts and assemblies in plastic, composite, and metal, solder microelectronics circuitry on Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), wire electronic enclosures and racks, and build military cable harnesses. The candidate will plan, conduct, record, and evaluate equipment test data and provide reports of findings detailing operations and malfunctions. This may require the candidate to troubleshoot and correct malfunctions using test equipment and redesign as necessary. Planning and tracking tools, lab and measurement equipment operation and maintenance actions, repair, and calibration will also be required.
The candidate will train, mentor, and be assisted by lower-level technicians while updating and tracking established Safety and Quality Management System procedures and practices. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Citizenship & Clearance: Must be a US Citizen with a DOD Secret clearance or eligibility to obtain a clearance within 12 months. Education: Associate degree and a minimum of 8 years of related experience with soldering assembly of microelectronics and military wire harness and cable assembly; or requires an equivalent combination of 12 years of experience and related training in military A-school electronics or related advanced engineering technician courses. Experience: At least 6 years of experience working as an Engineering Technician directly supporting military avionics or electronics design, modifications, repair, or related projects. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with soldering assembly of complex high-density surface mount microelectronics onto Printed Circuit Board (PCB), ideally with IPC J-STD-001 certification. Experience with assembly of military complex aircraft wire harnesses and cables using standard crimp tools and soldering practices iaw NAVAIR 01-1A-505-1 (SAE AS50881) Aerospace Vehicle Wiring, ideally with IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification. Experience with 3D CAD modeling engineering design software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo, MATLAB, etc.) to develop complex virtual concept designs . Experience with subtractive manufacturing (CNC, Mills, Lasers, etc.) and additive manufacturing 3D printers (PolyJet, SLS, FDM, etc.) or plastic injection molding.
Experience leading a team of Engineering Technicians performing various tasks on multiple concurrent projects.
Experience assembling and documenting complex electronic avionics and weapon systems (i.e., MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC-429 databus, RF sensors, RF communications, etc.) and performing testing to verify the design meets military systems requirements.
Experience repairing, maintaining, and operating complex military aircraft avionics, weapons systems, and ground systems, including avionics racks and enclosures, cable harness assemblies, etc.
Experience with AS9100 Quality Management System (QMS) processes.
Extensive experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint. Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 hours/week Compensation: $78,100-90,000. The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity. Additional Compensation: KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels per internal policy or contractual designation.
