The US Structural Biology Center of Excellence (CoE) at GSK, a new joint Vaccine and Pharma Center, will be established in Cambridge, MA in 2025. The mission of the CoE is to apply the full range of structural biology, protein biochemistry, and computational tools to design vaccines as well as antibodies, biologics, and small molecule drugs. We're looking for a passionate and highly motivated associate scientist to join the CoE. As a crucial member of our team, you will deploy your scientific knowledge in cell culture and expertise in the production/purification of DNA. The position will require active collaboration with diverse team to work together and address key challenges. You will be expected to maintain our laboratory environment, follow safety guidelines within the workspace, and deliver high-quality work using existing protocols. Your time-management and organization skills will be highly valued. This position offers you the opportunity to actively contribute to multiple pipeline projects simultaneously and directly impact the progression of our preclinical vaccine candidates. This position will initially be located at the GSK's Rockville site in Maryland from 2024 to 2025, and will permanently move to Cambridge, Massachusetts afterwards. Key Responsibilities: Maintain and deliver existing cell culture capabilities to produce protein in suspension culture. Deliver high quality materials with appropriate control experiments and documentation. Clearly communicate the results of experiments and adapt to feedback quickly. Ability to follow protocols and learn new skills. Ability to identify and communicate potential deviations, problems and/or unexpected outcomes promptly. Follow all safety guidelines while working in the laboratory. Present research findings and updates in internal reports and project meetings when appropriate. Basic Qualifications: BSc in protein biochemistry, cell biology, biology, molecular biology, or related field Six or more months of experience with recombinant protein production/cell culture. Six or more months of experience with DNA preparation. Preferred Qualifications: MSc in protein biochemistry, cell biology, biology, molecular biology, or related field. 1-3 years hand-on experience with recombinant protein production, especially in bacterial, insect, and mammalian cell cultures. Familiarity with DNA preparation, familiarity with sample characterization techniques such as biolayer interferometry, endotoxin measurement, bioburden measurement. Excellent oral and written communication skills with a fluency in English. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues. Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team. Able to efficiently manage uncertainty, changes in priority and timeline restrictions. The annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges from $71,570 to $96,830 taking into account a number of factors including work location within the US market, the candidate's skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role.
