Job Description:
The Materials and Process Engineering Department, which functions within the Mechanical Team, is looking for a mechanical/materials engineer to join our team in Andover, MA. This position will offer a qualified candidate the opportunity to engage subject matter experts and perform mechanical testing to support development, design, and failure analysis activities associated with a wide range of product applications. Tasks will require critical thinking to solve challenging problems and careful attention to detail on procedures, testing of materials, and documentation of results. Collaboration with design & material engineers, subject matter experts, and suppliers is required. Candidate must be able to manage and coordinate a wide variety of simultaneous tasks within set schedule requirements. This candidate will become part of a multi-disciplined team.
The Sr. Mechanical/Materials Engineer job is in Andover, MA and the position is onsite.
What You Will Do:
- Assess materials based on conformance to specifications
- Assess parts and hardware based on conformance to design requirements
- Conduct hands on testing of materials using a variety of laboratory techniques
- Follow standard written protocols, as well as developing and fabricating unique test plans and test setups
- Review material documentation and assessment of specifications
- Engage with subject matter experts to understand material usage
- Engage with suppliers
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 9+ years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience
Experience in using laboratory equipment (for example Instron load frames, hardness testers, or microscopes)
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Ability to troubleshoot analytical instrument problems, perform analysis, and interpret data
- In depth understanding of Instrumental Analysis and laboratory techniques (Instron testing, hardness testing, cross sectioning, microscopes, scanning electron microscopy, XRF, etc.)
- Understanding of material safety datasheets, military specifications, and ASTM test methods
- Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses
- Demonstrated ability to lead and complete large scale multi-disciplined scientific based projects including failure analysis investigations
