Department Summary: MITRE's Electronic Systems Development and Embedded Security department is seeking to hire talented and creative engineers with a focus on embedded wireless systems and protocols to support advanced research and development projects of national significance. Qualified candidates will join a team of technical experts in the implementation, analysis, and evaluation of wireless systems and their security. This multi-disciplinary team performs hands-on research and analysis and develops proof-of-concept prototypes to demonstrate capabilities involving advanced communication network technologies. Roles and Responsibilities: Engineers in this role will develop and apply their technical expertise to: Research and develop new approaches and countermeasures for emerging security threats to wireless systems
Design and build prototypes to demonstrate advanced capabilities
Perform hands-on functional and security assessments of wireless systems and implementations
Develop software for interfacing with and controlling lab equipment for data collection, measurement, and analysis
Shape creative and innovative ideas through internal research and capability development programs to advance the state-of-the art in wireless security
Track, adapt, and apply academic and industry advances in embedded security analysis and protection techniques to secure our sponsors' systems
Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, while leading tasks and/or teams of engineers
Collaborate with academic partners to improve wireless and security education at our nation's universities and high schools Basic Qualifications: Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD without experience in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or similar field; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Must be US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a DoD Secret security clearance
Experience with wireless communications, networking, and/or signal processing concepts/protocols
Experience with software design in languages such as Python, C/C++, or Rust for PCs and embedded systems
Experience with software development practices including design and code reviews, testing and regression, revision control, and user documentation
Effective oral and written communication skills
The position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week Preferred Qualifications: MS, or PhD degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or similar field and/or 5+ years of related experience
Experience with one or more of the following technical areas:
Implementation of networking and/or wireless communications protocol stack(s)
Software-defined radio usage for wireless networking/communications
LTE, 5G, or other radio access network configuration, function development, and/or evaluation
Cryptography and security concepts such as key-agreement protocols, authentication, encryption, etc.
Containerized application software design and container orchestration systems (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
