Job description

Duties The purpose of the position is to perform a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds and related structures, fixtures, and utilities. The duties are performed within the following trades: carpentry, painting, plastering, locksmith, and grounds maintenance. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: - PAINTING: Performing a variety of work assignments involving brush, roller and/or spray painting. Determining the methods and techniques, as well as materials and equipment needed to accomplish assignments.
- LOCKSMITH: Fabricating, installing, performing major overhaul, repairing and maintaining all types of security devices including cylinder locks, mortice locks, deadbolt locks, combination locks, rim locks padlocks, electric locks, card key locks, time locks, cypher locks, safes, vaults, arms room locks and alarm locks throughout the installation. Picking or neutralizing locking devices, rekeys, resets or installs new tumblers or code system for time locks, cypher locks.
PLASTERING: Plastering or repairing interior walls, and ceilings and stucco exterior walls on all types of backgrounds such as metal, wood, gypsum lath, wallboard masonry surfaces, and repairs/patches plaster and stucco surfaces. Planning and laying out work and selects proper tools. Mixing a variety of plastering materials such as base coat gypsum, lime plaster and finishing plaster. Determining type of lath considering thickness type of plaster and other job requirements, and installs.
- CARPENTRY: Working on projects such as building frames, rafters, concrete forms, walls, staircases, door and window frames, interior and exterior trim, interior and exterior painting, carpeting, flooring, ceilings, fire stopping, signage, labeling, printing and other miscellaneous items. Planning and completing work from initial layout to final assembly by interpreting and applying complex building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, and other guides and codes.
- GROUNDS MAINTENANCE: Repairing and maintenance of pavements and concrete roads and parking lots as well as seasonal lawn maintenance. May be required to clear snow from parking lots, roads and sidewalks with powered snow removal equipment or by hand shoveling. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship is required.
