The Early Preclinical Development (EPD) Team is seeking an Associate Scientist with experience in inner ear histology to support discovery and IND-enabling animal studies. The ideal candidate will have experience in histologic techniques specific to the inner ear, such as microdissection of the mouse and non-human primate (NHP) inner ear tissues into discrete anatomical regions, and further processing of these tissues using various histologic techniques, in addition to imaging, analysis, and preparation of data for presentation. Cross-functional work may be required to advance Company goals. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and creative, with a desire to succeed at the highest level in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Perform mouse and NHP inner ear microdissections
  • Perform NHP temporal bone extraction and processing
  • Prepare inner ear tissues for embedding and preparation for frozen sections
  • Preparation of inner ear tissues for molecular analyses
  • Perform immunohistochemistry
  • Perform epifluorescent imaging, cochlear frequency mapping, and confocal microscopy
  • Produce graphs and charts from histologic data
  • Preparation of histologic images for presentation
  • Development and/or review of immunohistochemistry protocols and image acquisition strategies
  • Inventory ordering and database management
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and external groups to coordinate execution of complex studies
  • Identify and communicate potential efficiencies for day-to-day operations
  • Weekend work may be required at times

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 0+ years of experience, hands-on experience with inner ear biology is preferred.

Additional Skills and Preferences:

  • Experience in solving scientific problems and/or image analysis using programming languages
  • Experience and programming skills in at least one language such as Python or MATLAB
  • Knowledge of cochlear anatomy, cochlear microdissection (whole-mount and sections), and methods for histological preparation of inner ear tissues required
  • Experience with modern imaging techniques; epifluorescent and confocal microscopy required
  • Excellent computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Suite)
  • Experience with image analysis software (ImageJ, Amira, LasX, Imaris); may include coding
  • Excellent laboratory technical lab skills (pipetting, reagent preparation, liquid handling)
