For more information about Draper, visit . Job Description Summary: The Senior Public Relations Specialist serves as the media point of contact for Draper. This highly visible role requires an individual who enjoys meeting challenges and delivering results. We are seeking candidate who can proactively develop, coordinate, implement and/or administer media relations programs within the government and strategic defense industries. This qualified candidate will lead showcases that demonstrate Draper's success and impact in alignment with our strategic initiatives. The Senior Public Relations Specialist also manages crisis communications and is in constant communications with our Executive Leadership Team to effectively plan and strategize messages that clearly communicate to our external audiences while maintaining Draper's reputation. This position works closely with the Head of Communications to coordinate messages and storytelling about Draper. This also requires an individual who can review material intended for public release to ensure that it represents the best interests of the company, stockholders and employees and is consistent with established company media relations objectives and policies. Job Description: Duties/Responsibilities Cultivates and manages relationships with key U.S. business media outlets and journalists.
Manages crisis communications and proactively communicates and solicits media coverage and publicity for press-worthy events.
Initiates and develops proactive media relations efforts with mainstream, online, and specialty media outlets based on an editorial calendar and late-breaking opportunities.
Researches, writes, and edits articles, speeches, reports, statistical backgrounds, and talking points representing the company, project, and/or customer.
Researches and analyzes legislative actions as they relate to assigned programs.
Manages Congressional inquiries and responses.
Proactively source story ideas and other reports and partner with the Internal Communications Manager and Social Media manager to develop content.
Develops feature stories about Draper and its accomplishments for our site.
Work on other projects for the department as needed. Skills/Abilities Acts as internal expert, consultant and program/project manager and represents the organization to external groups, agencies, customers, stockholders and vendors.
Be the media liaison to business market leads to support them on media relations.
Familiar with current knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, procedures and practices.
Able to attend briefings and hearings and provides advice on the relevance to the program.
Excellent communicator who enjoys working in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
Outstanding writing and editing skills.
Well versed in AP Style and high attention to detail.
Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision while at the same time respond quickly and readily to the needs of the company.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Possesses strong time management skill, able to balance multiple priorities. Education Bachelor's or Master's degree in Communications or a related field. Experience 7-10 years related Public / Media Relations, or Public Affairs, preferably in the defense industry.
