Job description

The Staff Accountant plays a vital role in the organization's financial operations by performing various accounting functions to ensure accuracy and compliance. Working under the direct to-general supervision of the Corporate Controller, the Staff Accountant is responsible for reviewing, logging, and processing invoices, handling discrepancies, and assisting with the preparation of financial statements and reports. This role requires close collaboration with the controller to ensure the timely and accurate processing of financial transactions for Caton Connector Corp. and its affiliates.



Core Responsibilities:

  • Invoice Processing and General Ledger Maintenance:
    • Accurately code invoices to the appropriate general ledger accounts, verify proper documentation and process payments.
    • Maintain and update the general ledger, including cash transactions, revenue recognition, payroll, accruals, and expense reports.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:
    • Assist in the generation of monthly financial statements, including ad hoc financial analyses and explanatory schedules.
    • Conduct budget-to-actual variance analysis and provide management with explanations for current and prior year changes.
    • Prepare a variety of recurring financial transactions, reports, and analyses related to operating financial statements, intercompany activity, and other sub-ledger activities and schedules.
  • Reconciliation and Month-End Close:
    • Complete general ledger account reconciliations, verify data accuracy, and compile supporting documentation for account balances.
    • Support month-end financial close activities, including preparing assigned journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Compliance and Internal Controls:
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of accounting regulations and standards.
    • Assist with internal and external audits as needed, providing necessary documentation and supporting schedules.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and relevant regulations.
  • Familiarity with account analysis techniques and budgeting processes.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to develop complex financial spreadsheets and proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications.
  • High level of self-motivation with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
  • Manual dexterity is required to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 20 pounds, such as files, documents, or office supplies.
  • Visual acuity to perform detailed work and review financial documents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and via email.
