About the Position The Lynn advanced programs (AP) section is a brand-new organization with the mission of inventing the future of flight and advancing propulsion capability for the next generation of military applications. Lynn AP supports a wide range of engineering activity including design, analysis, and testing across new, derivative, and existing engines. The advanced staff engineer will lead overall design and development of an exhaust nozzle as part of the exhaust module team. As the exhaust nozzle lead, the advanced staff engineer will balance individual execution of key design activities while also providing guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers. Together, the exhaust nozzle team will execute all necessary design activities including mechanical design, analysis, manufacturing support, and testing. This role is best suited for an experienced engineer with a passion for solving new and complex design problems that require a collaborative approach across multiple engineering disciplines. Working effectively and efficiently in person and across geographic sites with teammates and adjacent organizations will be necessary to achieve project outcomes. Job Description Roles and Responsibilities: Lead the design and analysis of the exhaust nozzle using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. Ensure all technical data generated by self and exhaust nozzle team members is properly documented.
Provide technical guidance and influence outcomes balancing input from cross functional teams and design requirements. Assess quality of available information and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders.
Demonstrate critical thinking and judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in engineering, project management, or manufacturing. Recommend new or creative solutions to challenges. Develop specialized knowledge in exhaust nozzle mechanical design and integration with adjacent engine or airframe hardware.
Assess internal and external business challenges associated with exhaust nozzles and recommend best practices to improve. Stay informed of industry trends and understand the impact on short or long term project goals.
Provide technical guidance that influences outcomes in the design process leveraging experience, expertise, and data to support recommendations. Mentor others in the organization
Develop action plans to respond to issues/ problems
Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews with internal and external customers. Act a peer reviewer of presentations to less experienced teammates and provide feedback prior to internal or external reviews. Required Qualifications Bachelor of science in Engineering from an accredited college or university
Minimum 7 years of engineering experience in relevant mechanical design engineering position
Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship. Desired Characteristics: Bachelor or Master of science in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering
