Job Summary:
The Sr/Program Manager for Sundries Quality Assurance is responsible for the quality, safety and compliance of BJ's portfolio of hundreds Own Brand products in our baby, home, pets, cosmetic, vitamins and over-the counter categories. As a key technical lead in our Own Brand stage gate model, this role partners with our brand management, sourcing, and product development teams to review and act on critical data about our suppliers' facilities, food/product safety programs, product quality, labeling and regulatory compliance programs. This role works collaboratively across BJ's and with our suppliers to identify and manage risk, ensure compliance to laws and regulations, and deliver exceptional quality products to our members.
Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:
- Reviews, approves, and advises the cross functional team on the risks identified in supplier facility audits, food and product safety programs and product testing results as key inputs to the Own Brand stage-gate product development model.
- Monitors and defines actions in response to product quality data from digital reviews, member contacts, returns and purchase repeat information. Partners with suppliers to assess the root cause of product quality issues, ensures a remediation plan is in place and monitors progress on plans.
- Addresses urgent food/product safety and quality concerns to recommend actions to protect our members and brand.
- Oversees the development of packaging and digital labels and claims (in partnership with an external third party) across our baby, home, pets, cosmetic, vitamins and over-the counter categories.
- Serves as a subject matter expert, advisor and thought leader in the development of BJ's quality management system to strengthen key programs and develop tools and resources to support the stage-gate model.
- Supports strong data and records within our information management system to ensure data integrity across our products, packaging / labels, supplier facilities, digital sites and other key assets.
- Leverages a network of external resources (labs, testing, auditing partners, sensory, regulatory consultants, experts) to develop, monitor and continuously improve our products.
- Monitors regulatory changes, assesses impact and adapts programs to meet compliance responsibilities. Maintain a strong partnership with BJ's Legal team and consult on necessary process improvements to maintain strong relationships with regulatory agencies (FDA, USDA, state departments of health, etc.).
- Optimizes and leverages the data on product satisfaction among our members using digital reviews, member calls / emails, repeat rate and returns data to respond to longitudinal tracking of quality performance, identify and address aberrations in quality performance and partner with our suppliers to improve the member experience with our products.
- Lead investigation into root cause of major complaints. Track, analyze and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for quality, and cross-functional team to set objectives and implement initiatives to drive corrective and preventive action to prevent recurrence.
Qualifications:
10-15 years of experience in retail / owned brand roles or with a national brand food/product manufacturing company with increasing complexity in Quality Assurance
Strong working knowledge of FDA regulatory requirements and experience developing compliance strategies
Demonstrated track record of establishing a quality management system with programs that deliver exceptional quality, safety and compliance
Ability to foster relationships and influence decisions with cross functional partners and suppliers
Experience working in a stage-gate model within a retailer or manufacturer
Proven ability to establish and manage a network of relationships with third party labs/auditing partners, labelling review partners and suppliers
Ability to navigate ambiguity and work in a fast-paced environment
Capable of translating technical information for non-technical audiences to communicate risk and drive decision making
