DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTIONS This position is responsible for the daily operations of all departments and staff on the 2nd and 3rd shift as well as scheduling of staff to provide adequate coverage to ensure patient safety. Is responsible for training new lab staffing for these shifts. Demonstrates ability to work effectively with staff, management and other hospital employees to ensure compliance and quality of care. This includes the processing and reporting of laboratory specimens assuring rapid and accurate results, maintaining laboratory records, training and competency assessment of lab technical staff, ensuring the departments are in compliance with CAP, JCAHO, and other accrediting agencies. Serving as a liaison with physicians and nursing staff. Following all hospital and laboratory policies and procedures with a focus on improving the patient experience, quality of care, and the current and future financial performance of the laboratory. Ensures performance of all LIS functions necessary to complete patient testing and specimen processing. Teaching students who are enrolled in the School of Medical Technology under the Direction of the Director of the Medical Technology School. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.) Experience: Five (5) years of recent experience in an approved laboratory as a supervisor or seven years (7) as a medical technologist. Experience in scheduling and in the resolution of personnel issues. Knowledge of HIS, LIS, and current word processing, spread sheet and presentation (PowerPoint) software applications. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Laboratory Management team Education and Training: BS degree in Medical Technology or a related science. License, Certification # Registration: MLS- Medical Laboratory Scientist certified through ASCP or CLIA approved equivalent education and training giving eligibility to perform high-complexity laboratory testing in all clinical laboratory sections.
