Job description

As the Automation and Controls Engineer you will oversee the design and installation of automation and control systems while maintaining documentation and software backups. You will also support PLC programming, manage project budgets, recommend system upgrades, and provide training for staff as needed.

Description

Responsibilities:

  • Leads the in-house design and installation of automation, monitoring, and control systems.
  • Maintains comprehensive documentation and backup for in-house software.
  • Selects and supports PLC, SCADA, and HMI software.
  • Assists with the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of PLC-based control systems.
  • Programs PLC ladder logic for manufacturing (Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi).
  • Generates wiring schematics and control cabinet drawings.
  • Prepares project authorizations and manages approved projects and budgets.
  • Develops specifications and cost analyses for control packages on new machines.
  • Recommends upgrades for control and automation systems.
  • Initiates engineering changes and updates documentation.
  • Prepares Capital Equipment Requests (CERs) and trains staff as needed.

Profile

Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least three (3) years of SCADA experience in design, programming, and installation using PLC and HMI software.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming (relay ladder logic), PID control loops, SCADA systems, AC vector and DC coordinated drive systems, and the National Electric Code.
  • Preferred experience with industrial robotics and vision systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
