Job description

Join our team as an Electronics Engineer supporting NOAA Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL). As an Electronics Engineer, you will work with cutting-edge technologies like Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) contributing to critical projects to protect public health and safety. Responsibilities Work with the ReCON team on system design, electrical design, and software development for existing and new observational technology. On a continuing basis, participate in observing system remote data acquisition, network support and real-time data collection and management. Work with real-time buoy team on data acquisition and software systems development projects using Perl, C, Python, and/or Linux scripting language. Work with real-time observations field support team to deploy and maintain on-water data collection platforms such as buoys and offshore structures from GLERL research vessels. Some local Great Lakes field travel will be required from May to November approximately 4 days per month. Travel from December to April will be associated with meeting attendance with approximately 3 trips during the period. Create and maintain system, electronics and software products for use in real-time observations. Support existing real-time observing system software and hardware deployments. Create and maintain data retrieval and data management software systems products for real-time observation nodes. Qualifications Master's degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or computer science, with knowledge of IT infrastructure and data management. Minimum 4 years of experience. Experience with interfacing sensors and devices to embedded processors via serial ports and digital ports. Designing interface circuits to provide control and switched power. Experience with serial and Ethernet communications, xterm, ssh, scp, ftp, telnet, kermit, and other protocols. Experience with programming Campbell Scientific data loggers, CRBasic, LoggerNet, and Device Configuration Utility. Have completed a class by Campbell Scientific preferred. Experience with working on, installing, repairing and maintaining sensors at remote locations such as navigation lights and towers including locations accessible only by boat. Experience with scientific instrumentation integration into a Linux real-time system including data transfer and display. Must be able to lift and carry a 50 lb load.
