PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:
The Business Segment Leader is responsible for managing a core team of individuals focused on the customers in the Vacuum Business Segment. As the leader, the Business Segment Leader will lead, manage and hold accountable a team of project managers, estimators, manufacturing engineers CAD operators and design engineers to meet the goals for their segment. ADI's Business Segments include Industrial Equipment, Food Processing and Pharmaceutical Processing Equipment and Vacuum Technology. The successful candidate will possess strong program management knowledge, technical aptitude, business acumen and excellent leadership qualities to perform day-to-day activities as well as long term strategic planning, including talent development and retention. Communication abilities with internal organizations such as sales, procurement, operations, finance as well as with suppliers and customers is critical for success in this role.
MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
- The position is responsible for the daily management of the segment team including the assigning work for the following functions: project management, estimating, manufacturing engineering, design and mechanical engineering, and CAD.
- Sets the annual, monthly and weekly goals for their business segment in support of the overall company goals.
- Sets individual goals for each member of the team.
- Coaches and mentors, their team members and support their professional growth and development.
- Define the job controls, that is the processes, procedures, reporting, etc., to manage their team's work.
- Review and monitor progress of individual projects to make sure that milestones are being met across the various projects.
- Manage their business segment's effectiveness to ensure it meets its performance targets, including profitability, on-time delivery and customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with the company's sales leadership to establish their segment's strategy and annual goals.
- Maintain positive relationship with existing customers, including developing new customers along with Sales representatives.
- Manage the risks and issues that arise over the course of various projects.
- Prioritize competing project deliverables against the team's capacity. Develop and encourage overlapping skill sets to create flexible capacity within their team's core functions.
- Make bid/no-bid decisions for all new opportunities.
- Maintains a schedule of all the team's work.
- Ensure deliverables are aligned across the projects.
- Develop metrics and key performance indicators for their team, including achievement of estimated versus actual metrics, as well as capture lessons learned.
- Coordinates/communicates and plans activities with other personnel, as appropriate, to ensure a coordinated work effort and team approach.
- Ensures that a favorable company image is presented to customers, and that all customer relationships are based on honesty and integrity.
- Performs related work as apparent or assigned.
- Complies with company and department policies and procedures as applicable.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering or business management or related field with 7-10 years of experience in a manufacturing or metal fabrication environment.
- Experience with ultra-high vacuum technology.
- Proven experience in Program Management.
- Solid team building and organizational skills including attention to detail, problem solving and multi-tasking.
- Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of CAD and 3D modeling tools (preferably Solid Works).
- Knowledge of ERP systems (preferably Made to Manage).
- PMP certification is a plus.
- Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Displays a positive attitude and a strong desire to learn and grow.
