Job description

Duties Major Duties: This is not an all-inclusive list A HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC, WG, 5803, 10, Performs required repair of gasoline and diesel powered vehicles and equipment as assigned, using independent judgment and own initiative on the repair work. Performs Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTOs) including scheduled, unscheduled and special inspections. Determines when and how far major components should be dismantled; what parts and mechanisms can be reworked, refitted, or replaced with new parts and the type, extent and alignment required, using technical orders, commercial manuals, automotive computer data base system, or local directives. Removes, rebuilds, repairs, and replaces vehicle system components. Adjusts and/or overhauls engine mechanical systems, state of the art fiber optic systems, electrical, air conditioning, fuel-air, emission control, power trains, gear reduction systems, electronic/pneumatic controlled automatic and manual transmissions, power take-offs, differentials, power dividers and computerized brakes, steering and suspension system components. Performs operational driving tests to determine service ability of equipment. Performs body repair and corrosion control, repaints, and refinishes surfaces as required. Repairs and/or replaces body parts, locks, glass, etc., and determines if additional repairs are required. Fabricates vehicle body panels as required for repairs. Uses welding equipment, power tools, hand tools and other specialized equipment. Cleans, replaces, tests and repairs radiators/oil coolers and associated parts. Incumbent replaces or repairs tires and/or tubes and balances wheels. Prepares, maintains and submits maintenance work orders for man-hour and data collection accounting. Records work performed or delayed and parts or maintenance required. Performs other related duties as assigned. Suitability is dependent upon the particular requirements for security clearance, sensitivity level, and DOD IT network access . Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GENERAL AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: WG-10 - Experience or training leading to a thorough knowledge of the mechanical makeup, operation, and working relationships of complex systems, assemblies, and parts for a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment. Ability to diagnose, repair, overhaul, and modify a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment. Knowledge of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and other non-mechanical systems that have a functional relationship and effect on the operation of mechanical systems. Knowledge of hydraulic lifting, loading, turning, and positioning systems and their mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic controls. Basic knowledge of electronics, sufficient to identify and replace defective components, such as sensors, diodes, and circuit boards. Ability to repair or overhaul major components such as diesel, multi-fuel or gasoline engines, turbine engines, automatic and manual transmissions, drive line assemblies, electrical and electronic systems and accessories, fuel injection systems, and emission control systems Education EDUCATION: N/A You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your Educational claims. The military grade of the supervisor must equal or exceed the grade of personnel supervised. Sensitivity Level 2. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
