Job Description

North Hennepin Community College, one of the largest and most diverse two-year colleges in Minnesota, is accepting applications for an Unlimited, Full-Time, Nursing Faculty.

The Nursing Department at NHCC is an engaged faculty interested in delivering the highest level of instruction to our students. Faculty members work as a team to consistently deliver content to students interested in pursuing their Associate Degree in Nursing - ADN.

This position will teach clinical courses along with other courses in the Nursing catalog, and prepare and provide all classroom instruction including lectures, lab, and clinicals.

  • Participates in discipline, division, and college matters through service on committees and attendance at regular meetings.
  • Practices contemporary teaching strategies, including learner outcome assessments and online instruction.
  • Maintains continued professional development in Nursing as well as in the areas of teaching and learning.

Minimum Qualifications
Education Requirement
  • Graduate degree with a major in nursing, or
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing and a graduate degree in support of the field of nursing and/or education.
  • A nursing program director must hold a graduate degree in nursing, nursing administration, nursing education, public health nursing or a nursing clinical specialty.

Occupational Experience Requirement
  • Two full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience as a registered nurse at the professional level.
  • As a registered nurse at the professional level, experientially qualified to accomplish the mission, goals, and expected student and faculty outcomes; including experiential preparation in the areas the faculty will teach.

Recency Requirement
  • One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.

Professional Requirement
  • Current unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse (RN) with current registration in Minnesota.
  • Other Requirement: Compliance with clinical affiliate policies for attending on-site clinical teaching assignments.

Teaching and Learning Competency Requirement

  • Faculty shall have a degree in education or three years of successful full-time (or equivalent) teaching experience prior to being hired, or shall be required to complete coursework in the above content areas (or their equivalent) prior to being granted unlimited status.
  • These courses shall be waived for individuals who at the time of hire have: a degree in education, or have documented evidence of successful completion of equivalent coursework in the specified teaching and learning content areas, or have three years of successful, full-time (or equivalent) secondary, post-secondary, industry, or trade apprenticeship teaching experience in the field for which they are being hired.   • This course shall be waived for individuals who, at the time of hire, have documented evidence of successful completion of equivalent coursework. (Procedure 3.32.1 College Faculty Credentialing, Part 5, Subpart B.3)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or DNP in nursing (with a focus in education, and administration).
  • Experience as a primary instructor teaching college-level nursing including laboratory and clinical.
  • Experience teaching undergraduates in a community college setting.
  • Evidence of commitment to student success and persistence.
  • Experience with learner outcomes assessment and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to educate adult learners, multi-lingual learners, students with disabilities, and international students.
  • Experience serving diverse and historically underserved populations.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Working knowledge of alternative instructional techniques and delivery methods such as online education, and education platforms (D2L Brightspace).
  • Experience in online teaching or demonstrated willingness to learn and develop online courses.
  • Exceptional team player willing to devote time to students and the department.

Salary

Salary is commensurate with education and experience and is determined by the salary placement process as outlined in the bargaining unit agreement. The entry-level range is $47,185 - $71,893 for a nine-month academic year, plus excellent benefits.

Full-time, unlimited faculty work 171 days during a nine-month academic year and receive excellent benefits including health insurance (95% employer-paid single premium or 90% employer-paid family premium); life insurance; optional dental, short-and long-term disability and long-term care insurance; paid personal and sick leave; defined benefits and defined contribution (401(a) retirement plans); tuition waiver for employees and dependents; and optional 457 and 403(b) retirement savings plans.

Under the collective bargaining agreement with the Minnesota State College Faculty (MSCF), new faculty to the system receive a salary placement based on education and related experience after a job offer is accepted. The maximum salary at hire is $94,542 per academic year, depending on education and experience.
