Working Title: Physical Plant Supervisor Institution: Century College Classification Title: Physical Plant Supervisor Bargaining Unit / Union: 216: Middle Management Association City: White Bear Lake FLSA: Job Exempt Full Time / Part Time: Full time Employment Condition: Classified - Unlimited Salary Range: $34.86 - $52.26 Job Description Position Purpose The Physical Plant Supervisor carries major responsibility for assisting with construction project management along with maintaining and upkeep of the campus building structures and outside grounds. This is to include assisting with overseeing all construction projects along with direct knowledge of best construction and building code practices. Position Responsibilities To lead, supervise, and direct department and contract personnel, including but not limited to hiring, coaching and developing, promoting, rewarding, assigning and reviewing work, directing work, disciplining, suspending, and discharging to ensure that staff are skilled and available as needed, collective bargaining agreements and Minnesota State policies and procedures are implemented and appropriately enforced, and projects are staffed correctly to meet deadlines and stay within budget. Assist the Physical Plant Director with the general administration of Facilities at Century College. Participate in new construction and renovation design and construction processes including, but not limited to, obtaining permits and proper documentation for such projects, and providing input on various repairs, replacements, remodels, new construction projects, and outside grounds enhancements. They will also serve as the primary resource in the absence of the Director of Facilities. Minimum Qualifications A minimum of 2 years' experience supervising trades, grounds, and maintenance staff in a multi-department large facility; planning and directing major repairs, remodeling, and new construction; and directing the work of outside vendors and contractors. Ability to work with construction plans and blueprints sufficient to interpret, modify and follow them. Fiscal Management skills to effectively manage projects and budgets. Excellent interpersonal skills in working with customers and staff in the coordination of projects and resolution of problems. Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Preferred Qualification 2 to 4 years of Commercial Construction Project Management. Preferably in an institution of higher education or public facility of similar complexity. Experience in AutoCAD. Knowledge of building and fire codes, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations, and safety practices and applications.
