Description:
Position Summary:
This position requires the RN to work effectively in the operating room in the circulating nurse role, the procedure room, and Post Anesthesia Care Unit.
- Patient Care
- Continuously assesses the patient's physiological and psychological status before, during and after surgery and recognizes abnormals. Documents in thorough, timely and accurate fashion that accurately reflects the cares provided.
- Anticipates, interprets, and acts on patient data to prevent problems/complications.
- Identifies priorities and implements care based on sound nursing judgment, individual patient needs, and facility procedure and standards.
- Able to perform in crises or complex situations, promptly grasping situation and performing role.
- Functions as a patient advocate by protecting the patient from harm during the perioperative period.
- Recommends what changes are needed in policy and procedure to assure quality care.
- Assists in admission, transfer and discharge of patients in assigned areas, completing necessary forms and referrals. Assures that educational needs are met for all patients.
- Anticipates and coordinates admission, transfer and discharge needs of patients to assure timely and smooth transition for patients.
- Skills
- Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic techniques, a familiarity with surgical instrumentation and equipment, and the principles of microbiology maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Performs nursing skills according to REHC policies and procedures using proper body mechanics and universal precautions.
- Keeps current in nursing knowledge and attends educational offerings that enhance skills.
- Performs the work of the department independently with elements of accuracy, control and efficiency.
- Assists with preparing, processing and providing functioning supplies, equipment, and instruments to ensure their economic and efficient function for the patient and personnel.
- Anticipates and provides supplies consistently in a timely fashion. Keeps assigned departments and areas supplied and neatly organized using systematic inventory and material control principles/works with Purchasing Department.
- Assists with the research and evaluation of new equipment and supplies.
- Contributes to the quality and safety efforts of the facility by providing honest and valuable input.
- Collaboration
- Works cooperatively with other departments and personnel to provide patient care continuity.
- Seeks opportunities to help out other staff contributing to team work and spirit.
- Assists with patient scheduling.
- Promotes a working atmosphere conductive to learning.
- Participates willingly in the orientation of staff and evaluating their readiness for independent functioning.

- Demonstrates flexibility on a daily basis to meet the demands of the changing environment.
- Follows Policy and Procedure manual found on the "G" drive.
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current Minnesota license. Certified in AHA Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire.
- Knowledge and experience in perioperative nursing preferred. General knowledge in hospital nursing and the ability to use the nursing process.
- Ability to interact in a positive and cooperative manner with courtesy and respect towards co-workers, patients, physicians and other customers.
Summary:
River's Edge Hospital in St. Peter, MN has positions available in our Surgical Services department. Due to growth and service expansion, we have a variety of FTEs available from .75 to 1.0 (60 to 80 hours per pay period).
This position works Monday-Friday 9, 10, or 12 hour shifts, with rotating start times. Rotating weekday, weekend, and holiday call required 6a-6p
(must work at least .9 FTE during initial orientation and training)
